Reflux

My little girl is 11 weeks old, and has been on Gaviscon for about 3 months now, she has now got really constipated. What can I do to help? I use infacol every feed as well.

I had her switched to kendamil goat because she seemed so uncomfortable on normal Kendamil, if I were to try another formula like SMA would her reflux get better?

She seems happy most of the time but sometimes during feeds she absolutely screams, assuming due to the reflux.

Any advice would be amazing

My boy is just about to turn 11 weeks and has been on gaviscon for a few weeks and is also on kendamil. The doctor prescribed him laxatives at the beginning of the week cause he was in agony and he still isn’t going consistently but he isn’t as uncomfortable now. Switching formulas can also cause constipation my doctor told me so could be a combo but gaviscon is known for causing constipation. Speak to your GP they should give her something! I’m going to try switching formula though cause kendamil doesn’t seem to agree with him

We didn’t need gaviscon but we were so close to it with my little boys reflux, it’s awful seeing them so uncomfortable isn’t it 😔 I don’t really have advice that you probably haven’t done already but what helped was: keep upright after feeds, baby wearing (game changer), slow flow size 1 teats on MAM bottles, paced feeding, baby belly massages and lots of bicycle legs exercises. We’re also on kendamil. I would advise not using infacol however, this can cause more discomfort, there’s no evidence that it’s effective for babies and is more of an advertising / marketing ploy. My friend just did this with her baby boy and it helped a lot!

Just to add to this- warm baths always get my boy pooping!

My little girl is 8 weeks & she’s been on omeprazole for 3 weeks now. Her reflux sent us into a&e as she struggled to keep food down & we wouldn’t be able to lay her down without the acid disturbing her sleep.
What also helped was holding her upright for 30mins - 1hr after feeds, burping her midway or even 3 times whilst feeding, smaller teets, tummy time/bicycle legs BEFORE feeds, putting baby on your chest (whilst you sit upright) & tap their back slowly :)

We used gaviscon with baby one and no issues but didn’t agree with baby 2. We’ve just been using sma anti reflux milk, so you could try stopping the gaviscon and using an anti reflux milk, you could keep using gaviscon and get lactulose from the dr or you can stop gaviscon and get the dr to try carobel (a thickener) which you add to your regular formula.
Once my first baby turned 6 months his reflux improved massively due to sitting up and weaning and then by 8 months was a total non issue. He used to bring up large quantities of milk all day long and I was just draped in muslins for 8 months!

Has anyone tried the pre-made formula bottles once a day? We got told by a health visitor that they can help them pass stools (LO was going once every 5 days and straining for hours to no avail in between and on gaviscon for silent reflux) and they worked like a charm the same day! Now he’s a nice wet poop every 2 days and WAAAY less straining.
