New any advice?

So yesterday I found out my 3 week baby had cows milk allergy… wasn’t given really any information on what to do or help his symptoms so just reaching out for any advice.
I’m currently combination feeding breast and formula due to the lack of breastmilk supply for little one.
My son’s bum almost looks like it’s blistering and I’ve been told there’s nothing that can be done? Is this true?
Not sure on any meals I can eat that are good alternatives to dairy.
Non of my family have any allergies so this is all very new to me, and my first born didn’t have any issues so any advice, recipes or help is much appreciated! X

Sorry you’re both going through this. His bottom will heal when his gut is free of dairy as long as it doesn’t catch a bacterial or fungal infection. Pat water down don’t wipe it. Sudocrem worked for us.
If it took more than a couple of days to start healing go back to GP and ask for review. Could be fungal/bacterial or an allergic reaction. There’s something to be done for each.

Thankyou so much for the advice, we have been putting sudacream on it but it doesn’t seem to stay on it where it’s so sore. But also my baby still at the poop so often stage whilst his tummy is only just started adjusting to his new formula. I will defo contact doctors in the next couple of days if I don’t see any improvement . Just don’t want my little one suffering.xx

Shopping could take a little more time than it used to because you’ll need to check every label (I found milk in the ingredients for a packet of crisps once).
Every dairy should be substituted. We used I can’t believe it’s not butter and whole oat milk. Tea biscuits were usually a safe bit. When I missed chocolate I had dark chocolate and made sure it had no percentage of milk.
If invited to friends’s or eating out I told them / researched the menu in advance.

I really do think breast milk helps their gut heal faster. Good for you 👏

try drapolene, my little girl use to swell and blister in nappy area and all on the lower back, when she pooped it would make it worse as she would then react to the poop, drapolene is a creamier consistency so it goes on much easier, I use to keep it in the fridge so it would have a cooling affect in her and also lots of nappy free time, get the disposable bed pads and lay them down with blankets or soft towels that you don’t mind if they have an accident on, don’t worry it gets better once they have the dairy out of their system, it’s just heartbreaking having to watch them be in pain and discomfort xx

As much as she’s wanted to keep breastfeeding, my wife had to stop and push for the prescribed formula. After attempting dairy free diet, our boy still wasn’t right. As it stands it looks like soy was the issue too but at the time we had no idea of this!

We found it pretty difficult to get the doctors to agree to give us the formula and felt belittled when expressing that my wife no longer wanted to breastfeed. The impact completely changing your diet has whilst you’ve all the chaos of a newborn is a lot to take.

If you do go into formula, watch for a regression after around 2 months. At first we felt our son thrived on the aptamil but after 8 weeks it was back to what he was like before. Eventually got him moved to the neocate and he’s a completely different kid! So much more settled and content.

Hope this can help in some shape or form!
