Cough syrup to help babies sleep

Hi mamas,
I came across a discussion recently where some parents mentioned giving cough syrup to their babies or toddlers to help them sleep. It got me curious, have any of you ever heard of this happening?

I was surprised to see it mentioned and wondered if it’s something others have come across or done before?

When I was a baby you could get the doctor to prescribe a strong antihistamine if you were flying or something to knock baby out.
It's not something they do anymore.
It would work, but I imagine it's frowned upon!

As above have heard the same but definitely frowned upon. You dont want to unnecessarily medicate babies

Cough syrups are not safe for babies and young children. They can actually have deadly side effects. If you're remotely considering drugging your baby to sleep then please look into the side effects.

Or...just deal with the sleepless/disturbed nights. It flashes before your eyes anyway 🙃

We use hylands mucus relief which has chamomile in it so it definitely helps. Anytime my oldest has any sort of cold she can’t sleep so it helps with sleep and the snottiness

Yeah try not to drug your babies

Just to add, this is purely a discussion post. I am NOT considering giving cough syrup to my baby for sleep. I know it’s not recommended and can be unsafe. I’m just genuinely curious to hear other people’s views, because I didn’t know some people are actually doing this up until recently.
