Do you feel guilty for having a baby?

Does anyone else feel guilty for bringing a baby into this scary world when they obviously had no say in it? I’m Latina and in the US

Yes & no, but maybe my children can positively impact the world one day.

No. I genuinely believe that if the next generation are raised right then they can shift courses for the better.
I’m UK based so not as scary as US atm but it’s definitely heading that way atm

Yes so much has happened in my family with the ICE raids and it’s been one heartbreak after the other. My dad, brother and several cousins have been detained shortly after the passing of one of my older cousins it’s gotten really sad and the stress of it all has put a strain on my relationship with my own mother. Everyone is so stressed and scared and I can’t help but feel like I should’ve waited just a little longer to have my baby

In a way, sometimes, but the best thing we can do is raise them so they can create the change we would like to see

This is a massive source of anxiety for me at the moment. I'm in the UK and it's becoming a more horrid place, especially for females and people not of English heritage (my daughter is mixed heritage) and I feel so guilty for bringing her into this world when she's so pure and wonderful and doesn't deserve to put up with all of this 💔

Not really.

Every generation ever has had its moment where they were fearful of tomorrow. My mum talks about being taken off the beach due to winds bringing nuclear dust over from Chernobyl and working in the early HIV crisis and Hillsborough crush disasters has a young nurse terrified. I was born in a time of the fall of the Soviet Union, Desert Storm and IRA bombs. Raised during an economic collapse, 2 more wars and the rise of extremist terrorism.

There will never be a time without war, famine, cultural shift, economic unrest. If we stop having kids we will never make a change.

No. It is scary, but don’t let these creeps steal your joy.

No. The world has always been scary. Like Sarah I grew up with the IRA in the background. The start of the Iraqi war after they invaded Kuwait. One of my first jobs at the benefits office there was an anthrax scare shortly after 9/11 as someone had put flour through the post.
It’s not becoming a more horrible place although I’m uk based. I remember the Sarah Nichols murder on Wimbledon common as someone that worked for my dad was picked up and questioned for it. People forget Jamie bulger, Milly Dowler, Sarah Payne and Holly and Jessica. That was over 20 years ago.

My grandmother was born during world War 2 I'm sure her parents felt the economic squeeze and heard if the horrors going on but they had her anyway and I'm glad until she died this year she was my best friend and just a joy to everyone she met and her life was very hard but she worse through adversity and was a good whimsical person anyway every other generation it seems like has to face war and problems because humans can't learn to leave well enough alone but I think children are resilient and if as many of us who want them have some I bet the future will have enough heros in it to make a difference

Avatar

Some days I feel like that, but i remember that humans have been born, lived and died through all the dark times that came before. Human resilience has gotten us this far and life goes on. There's always an up and down of bad and good times, I just hope my kids live long enough to see easier times

Yes and No. yes cause the world is SO crazy rn. Especially in the U.S. but no cause I wanted a child, she could be the next president or world leader.

I don’t feel guilty but sometimes i feel scared. Like will violence and war reach North America? Will they be able to afford life?

I’m Christian and I know regardless of my understanding they are a gift and there’s a greater purpose for their lives.

I also know that while I can be scared- I can always help make their lives better. Meaning - a better society starts with us and then our children. Show love, forgiveness and sacrifice and my hope is that eventually the world will heal.
