Hi mamas. I'm travelling next month to Egypt with my little boy who will be 5 months. He currently does swimming lessons here (England) where I put him in the double nappy system - disposable swim nappy + Splash About Happy Nappy on top. Do I need to use a double nappy system abroad? I can't see any requirements listed on the hotel website so I'm trying to understand what the norm is for swimming with a baby in a hotel pool.
Secondly, it's predicted to still be hot when we're there... around 30°C during the day. What is best to dress him in for the pool? I want him to be protected but not overly hot / clammy by his clothing.
Finally, I see mixed views about sunscreen at this age. Any thoughts on if it's necessary and if so which brands are good?

Hey, we took our little one on holiday at a similar age. Our pool didn’t have any restrictions but we used a single swim nappy under his swimming costume. We found one with sleeves to help protect him from the sun and avoided going out when it was peak heat. We keep him in light but long clothes and just a nappy when inside. Suncream isn’t really recommended under 6 months from what I read up about. I was breastfeeding so just kept him topped up so he didn’t dehydrate.

There aren’t usually any requirements abroad but the whole point of doubling up is to catch a poop explosion. I’ve always doubled up just to minimise the risk

We've just done the same abroad as in the UK - disposable nappy with happy nappy costume over the top. For outdoor pool abroad, I'd put a thin, long sleeve sun suit over the top, for warmth and sun protection.
They'll get cold quickly when wet, so chances are you'll get them dry and dressed anyway after a quick dip at that age.

No we don’t coz reusables were made to replace the disposable completely swim schools just ask people to put a reusable over coz everyone has a disposable already. As a cloth mum I can assure you those swim nappies and cloth nappies in general will catch all the poop and it won’t leak. We never used a disposable under even in swim class his bathers were over and they never checked.

We’ve just come back from Mallorca. We did disposable under a reuseable swim nappy. We had a long sleeve uv top for him. The water was too cold for him (about 29C) so he ended up wearing a wetsuit anyway. He’s used to bath water and the gym pool is warm too but always wore the swim suit. We also had a hat with a peak and neck shield part.
I ended up getting some child’s farm suncream. Tested a little on his leg and he was fine. We’re quite fair so even with mostly being in the shade, we put some on when we swam.
