I mean, we didn’t have a choice (U.K.) and also don’t have the comparison! But I would say it was fine, the midwives were nice, everyone just kept to themselves really. It was hard to rest with all the different beeping and babies crying etc but made getting home feel that much sweeter x

The first time I had five days of labor ending in emergency c-section and they stuck me in the c-section ward after for several more days with no choice. It was f*ing horrendous. My baby was under uv light for jaundice and just cried for like 2 days so in a way I felt bad for the other moms, but also some had loud phone conversations, annoying music, partners… it was all just too much after what I’d been through.

The second time I had a planned c-section and paid for a private room. It was much better.

(UK)I had a private room for 3 days when I was 30 weeks on mother and baby ward, and I was bored out my brain. I was really poorly with a respiratory virus so had to be seperate.

When on the ward, it was lovely, sat and had a chat with other women, who also watched our babies for us if we needed a wee and compared stories etc. I was lonely in my own room when on my own most of the day as my partner was working or looking after our 2 year old x

With both my boys I stayed on the shared postnatal ward, with my 2nd I was in for a couple of nights and they apologised the day I left as they said they should have offered me my own room. To be honest I wouldn’t have liked being in a room all by myself after giving birth with my hormones everywhere and feeling severely sleep deprived. I liked being on the ward hearing everyone around me and seeing people walk past throughout the day and night x

Cons of shared; constant noises,
People coming in and out 24/7,
Bright lights,
Little to no sleep,
Sharing bathroom.
Too warm 🥵 to keep the newborns warm, which is fine once you've given birth, but not when you've got insane contractions.
Confined space if you're a private person and like to keep your curtain closed at all times.

Pros: you can nip to the bathroom knowing baby isn't entirely alone.
Nurses are around more frequently as other parents need assistance/support, too which makes it easier to quickly ask something 'small/simple' without feeling like a burden or something.

I desperately wanted a private, quiet and dimmed room. I was in the ward from Friday afternoon (induction) until Tuesday evening and it was hell. I did also have a pulmonary embolism which didn't help.
I was beyond exhausted by the time my waters broke the night of sat-sun. I was unable to move to reach the cord, I had to beg for someone else to do that.

I was on a shared ward postpartum (as usual in the UK) which I absolutely hated. I have a problem with noises and couldn't deal with all the blokes in there snoring their heads off, I spent more time in tears, so for my wellbeing they moved me to a private room and it was so much less stressful

I was on a shared ward (UK) after an emergency c section. Spent 2 days on it and it was fine tbh. I’m sure a private room would be better but I wasn’t unhappy with my experience. We were lucky to have a window cubicle and the only end of the room so no one really walking past at all. The shared room only had 4 beds so not so many people and the midwives and support staff were very attentive.
I just didn’t think it was so bad. I’d do it again.
