Hi all. I know this is going to be one of those subjects that’s going to trigger some people,
My 6 year old has been invited to her friends birthday party, which is absolutely fine, on the invitation it said the time, place and date and the theme, the parent said her younger brother is allowed, he’s just turned 3 end of July, so still a little 3, I replied a few weeks ago saying they’re coming etc and put in for what they wanted food wise (option choice for sandwiches) the party is in a couple of days so both children know about it, however I’ve just received a text from the parent saying I can just drop them off as there’s no need for me to stay as not many parents will be staying, now to me, if I knew that at the same time as the invitation I would’ve just said my daughter can go and not even mention her brother as there’s been 1 party she’s gone to where we didn’t stay (it’s a good friend of mine and me and the parent get on really well, it was at her house and all family members were dbs checked) so that was no issue as I trust her with my children like anything, although I took my son with me as he was just under 2 at the time and couldn’t put that responsibility on the parent when it was her child’s party, I however feel extremely uncomfortable with the fact I’ve been told I can just drop them off and there’s no need to stay as I know I could potentially leave my daughter (she’s started to struggle leaving my side lately due to issues going on externally) but to leave my 3 year old in a room with no one he knows and loads of older children and him only knowing his sister he would be extremely uncomfortable and I know that would be an awful situation to put him in and I wouldn’t even do it, do I now though just say it’s only my daughter coming and upset my son that he’s leaving his sister instead of joining her like he was told he was or do I just say neither of them are coming and upset both of them. I don’t want to sound over protective at all but I don’t trust the fact of leaving my 6 year old and 3 year old alone with people I’ve not ever met before (I only know the mum and dad but don’t actually know them that well) it’s just sitting in my gut and chest saying don’t do it.

If your gut is saying no then don’t do it. Personally I wouldn’t send them

I’d leave the 6 year old as it would be a shame to miss out on her friends birthday however I would just text to say you don’t feel comfortable leaving your 3 year old at that age. I’m surprised they invited the younger brother and assumed you’d be happy leaving him.

did she say you’re not allowed to come? or just that you don’t have to? is this a language barrier thing or something cuz to me “no need to stay” is just saying that you don’t have to but you still could be like “it’s okay i don’t mind staying, my 3 year old would be more comfortable with me there” cuz at least anytime i’ve heard that it’s meant that it’s just optional for parents to stay or go.

I don’t think they’re saying you’re ’not allowed’ I think they’re giving you the option to leave if you want to. I’d just reply saying, ‘thanks but I’m happy to stay, especially for little one’ and leave it at that

I'm reading that as you don't have to stay, but there isn't a problem if you want to? I'd read it as she's offering the opportunity to drop them and come back which may be appreciated by some parents so just putting the offer there. She's not said you cannot stay, so just say thanks for the offer but you'll stay 🤷🏼♀️

Yeah. I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving my kid. I would want to be there.

I agree with the others, I think you’re misunderstanding the parent. Sounds like she’s saying you don’t HAVE to but you can

I would just text back that you plan on staying because your 3 year old might not be comfortable since he doesn’t know the other kids and you wouldn’t want him to be scared.

I wouldn’t let them attend a party by themselves at that age. Or at any age until they are responsible teenagers. The world is too crazy and no one will watch your kids the way you watch them. It only takes seconds for a tragedy to happen or a kid to go missing. I might sound too much, but you just never know.
Soo no, and thanks for the invite if I can’t stay! ✌️

After reading only the title NOO!!! -USA

Can't you just say to her 'thanks so much for the offer but if it's ok, I'd like to stay with my 3 year old. I don't want to make it harder for you when you already have so many kids to take care of 😊'

It turns out I replied to the mum and said my son won’t be happy to stay without me and they said just drop your daughter off, so my son has been uninvited to the party 🤦♀️😢 just days before the party. I get if there’s a limited number of people but don’t say he’s invited a few weeks before the party and then 2 days before the party say he’s now not invited and for me to just drop my daughter off and go 😳😢😠

I would skip the party then and take them somewhere fun.
