Do you take your baby out if they’re sick?

My partner is moaning because his family haven’t seen our baby for over a week and wants them to see her today but my poor girl has woke up full of a cold so I said no “but it’s alright for my family to see her” according to him (we live in the same household). I don’t know if I’m being dramatic, please let me know your thoughts. She’s 3.5 months old, I’m a FTM and this is the first time she’s been ill.

Thank you

If shes ok in herself I would take her. If shes unhappy and unsettled then no as its not fair on her

If she’s the one with a cold I’d take her to family‘s house, as it would be no different to sitting in our house, but might not take her out in public. If other people had a cold I might be a bit weary of her getting sick, but if she’s the sick one I see no issue.

No, it has happened to me this situation a lot of times and I have been firm. No for going to his parents, no for going out. They can wait till baby becomes better and meet her then

Absolutely not, baby comes before everyone else, including a moaning groaning partner. Home, warm, eating and sleeping to get better, not out being passed around

Her immune system will be working harder so I get you won’t want to take them somewhere if they could pick up something else on top of it. Personally I wouldn’t take mine if he wasn’t well, maybe if he was just a little sniffly yeah but otherwise no

Edit: just read 3.5 months old, absolutely would not be taking babe anywhere in my opinion. Your partner can go on his own

Absolutely not. If my baby is sick we are staying home. Chances are she wants comfort and I'm not passing her around while she's literally sick!? She's vulnerable to picking something else up while her body is fighting to get her well from her current cold.

If she ok in herself I would ask the family and just let them know she has a cold and they can make the decision

I would limit contact, she needs rest, not over stimulation. Extended family can wait till she’s feeling better.

I limit contact even to this day my daughter is 22 months old and when she’s sick we don’t leave the house. That being said we’ve had awful illnesses and she’s a late premature baby

I just spent 4 days helping my infant with a cold so absolutely no. It's best to stay home where you can- take them outside often, do steams in the bathroom 3-4x daily, saline drops or booger sniffer is the route I took, & I upkept with her milk etc much easier at home bc it just would have been too stressful to not be home. Not be in the comfort of everything I need is here. So I completely understand what you're saying.

If it was a much simpler cold, like baby is fine & content just hard at night I'd take her out lol. Especially if the weather is nice or we can open windows at my inlaws or visiting my parent. It all depends to me, how baby is doing. If baby isn't content then I'm staying home.

A cold is a symptom which indicates that something is going in the body. Which her immune system has to fight it out so limiting her interaction with people is best.

I wouldn't be doing anything if my child seems unwell. Adults can wait. You don't owe them anything. I mean she is a baby human, not a toy. When my baby is unwell, we take time to rest and maybe going for a little bit of fresh air in the garden or somewhere calm with no other kids around.

If it were me, I would if his family is coming over, but I probably wouldn't take baby to them just for baby's comfort.

I think baby needs fresh air when they’re ill/congested, but definitely limit contact with people, including family.

She's very young, the answer is no

No your baby needs to rest

Thank you all, I did end up taking her out because I think she needed some fresh air but just met them out for a coffee and didn’t let anyone handle her x
