Who even am I now I’m a mum?!

Does anyone else feel like this or does what I’m saying just not make sense..

Now I’m a mum I feel like I’ve completely changed! I don’t know my career path in life anymore, I don’t know what hair style I want, how I want to dress. My identity has disappeared and now I’m settled into being a mum I feel really down on myself. I look in the mirror and feel empty almost! Am I making sense? 😅😮‍💨

Yesssss. I absolutely feel the same. Constantly wanting a “refresh” for my style, hair, makeup, wanting to figure out my identity outside of my children. I’ve felt this for years. It’s easy to “lose your identity” after you have children because we tend to put ourselves last. You’re making total sense 🥹

How old is your little one? To start with motherhood and your baby is all consuming, but you do find a balance eventually.

I have a 5 and 2 year old, I work 4 days a week and have kept the same style as pre-kids just in a slightly bigger size 😆

I've struggled along the way though and I still don't have a hobby or other interest unless you count interior design. But I'm working on it! We're all a work in progress!

Feeling the same as well. I recently went back to work but I feel like I'm going from work mode to mum mode when I get home, picking up my Lo from nursery and feeling like I have no time to be myself in between. Don't even know what that is anymore. Hoping it won't be long till I find myself again.

Our focus shifts from ourselves to them when we become parents, everything is about them, a constant mental load, thinking about when they’ll next need food and what to give them, thinking how our plans will fit around them, feeding times, nap times ect, if they have their clothes washed and have clean clothes, everything we do from the moment we give birth is about them! We tend to forget about ourselves and our needs! We don’t know how to be anything other than mum! When you have children your whole life changes, your identity does change! But there are some way you can try and help yourself feel a bit more like you as well as ‘just mum’ it can be harder for some, especially when they have no help ect, but you can try going to hair dresses and have a change, if you’re in a relationship, maybe a grandparent can have baby for a day/night and you can have a date night! he’s 10 months on the 1st. Yeah my hobbies have gone out the window. I was thinking to myself last night I need to try and get back to something to find that little joy for myself

it’s so tough, especially when you have to go back to work. Hoping you find yourself again soon!!

yeah all I think about is what’s next for him, how can I make his life better, am I doing enough for him. He’s always well dressed and clean and I look like a bridge troll haha. My partner’s amazing & my mum helps all the time but I think I’m putting too much pressure on myself to be perfect & just completely loosing sight of myself

I’ve got Afro hair so it’s a nightmare if I don’t look after it. I’m growing it out now so thought a wig will just boost my confidence and the change in the appearance will hopefully too!

Yeah I’m looking forward to days out and little silly conversations, teaching him about life.

Hahaha I don’t mind not putting as much effort into my appearance but it’s getting abit ridiculous now

I shaved my hair to a pixie cut coz I was sick of the shedding. I do feel free. However, identity crisis is normal. I feel the same way my LO is 4 months and I’m still finding myself but it’s nice to just go in walks with your LO in their carrier or the pram because it does give a slight sense of self. You feel better inwards.

I felt much more like myself when I started doing Pilates and Zumba at 4m pp I had something just for myself at set times set days that I tag out w the hubby and just pick up my keys and go. I also found free salsa/bachata lessons at 18m and since then I’ve bloomed I’ve grown I’ve emerged into my own person and made so many friends from dance, I feel like part of ba new community it’s awesome. The Zumba community is also encouraging and fun they regularly do Zumba meetups and w the salsa it also gives me a social life coz it’s held at night and the lessons are in a club so every Friday I have somewhere to go and dress up for even if all my friends are busy I still have somewhere to go. My bestie plays poker every Friday, my other friend goes to photography group every Sat and my other friend does kickboxing. There’s always something out there for you, you just have to find it.
