Hi all,
I just need some advice, I’m bugging out right now. We are in a studio temp accommodation, we found mice last night but and council were closed, I did the pest control form but it said we’ll contact you in 10 working days so this morning, I found a guy online and paid £280 for him to come and check it out and put down poison.
This is my worst phobia I can deal with anything except rodents, I didn’t sleep last night and I’ve been crying all morning. I don’t know what to do, I cannot enter the kitchen, I’m scared out my mind. I’ve called family and friends to let them know and not once person has offered for us to stay with them. I have no immediate family here so they were all I could call. I can live without going into the kitchen but my son can’t. Idk what to do.
I checked online and been looking for a hotel or something to stay for the week til the guy comes back and closes all the holes and takes away whatever does but everything is ridiculous, I can’t find anything for under 700/800 and it’s not feasible for us right now.
I’m literally crying cos this is so stressful, it’s my worst nightmare come true. Idk what to do 😭😭😭

If you’re in London, it’s very very common. Most people don’t even realise they have them. Especially in flats because they run between the flats. They’re everywhere. In the best restaurants in London. EVERYWHERE. BUT I feel you…I have ocd and one of my fixations (phobias) is mice and I’m having to overcome it but if it makes you feel better it’s very common, as long as you’re trying to sort the issue and you’re keeping food locked away and making sure you don’t leave any foods out/ crumbs etc you’ll get rid of them but they’re hard to get rid of

That is not ok request a suitability check from council tomorrow morning

I feel you I have the same problem in my flat and pest control is taking so long to come and check one of my friend recommended pepper mint essential oil so I put it on the corners of my kitchen since then I didn’t hear them as I had more than one 😭😭😭 you need to make sure it’s not coming from another flat because that’s how my problem started the whole building have same problem, also try to call home emergency they might give you appointment asap
that’s what everyone around me is saying, they’re like we had it and this person had it but it’s like making me feel worse, some people saying if you saw one there’s probably more but I’m just like omg I acc am shitting myself lol this is like the worst thing I can deal with everything but this, mice, rats and bed bugs are the worst thing to me 😭
my council is the worst I literally am sick of complaining to them, I’ve definitely added this to my list of complaints but we’ll see what they do when they finally get back to me 🙏🏾
I’m not going near the kitchen now, the poison has been laid out and I’ll just see what happens, the guy did say if you have the whole block of flats has it too. The council won’t move me cos of mice I’m pretty sure everyone has it tbh idk what to do 😭

Oof! I am sorry to hear this. I am also sorry to be the bearer of bad news but..save your money as mice do not just go. Bastards can terrify you for years in London. All it takes is for someone else to have them in your building, and they will be back. They travel via the pipes! They can also flatten themselves, and squeeze through the tiniest of spaces.
How old is your son? He might be able to whack the ones he sees with a bat?
If all else fails, buy or borrow a ghetto cat?
Don’t waste your money on the rubbish plugs they sell on Amazon. Buy old school style traps that snap. Spray pure peppermint oil all over clean floors, especially sides of walls. Put all cereals etc in sealed containers.
Get angry, so if they hear your voice they will run! The council are not going to help you, well they might send a man to put bait out, but don’t build your hopes.
These pests have so many babies in one go, so they spread rapidly. My friend left her flat for a year, until the mice left!
that’s literally given me the shivers omg, my son is only 18 months old, I’m more worried about him trying to eat them then getting him to whack them 😂 we’re in temp accommodation so can’t have pets, I love cats I’d love to get one tbh but not allowed. I’m hoping they’ve all died by the time the pest control guy comes back next week but I’ve got a huge phobia so I definitely won’t be going into the kitchen for the next week. I’m waiting for them to move me, they’ve put me on an urgent transfer list but that could take months. I’m hopeless right now 😭
Camden 💔

Oh no! Well if all else fails, try spraying everywhere with the pure peppermint oil.
definitely not, they’re so bad. I’m at the point I’m considering moving out of London at this point, just tryna get hubby to find a remote job so we can leave 😭

Buy some cheap chili power and put it where you think they might be coming in! Make sure your son can’t get to it though x

Years ago I lived in a flat with a BAD mouse problem. We tried lots of different things including pest control. It got so bad that one day I went out and bought a cat, and I never ever saw one single mouse after that day. Now I appreciate that might not be feasible, but do you know anything that you can cat sit for? Offer cat sitting while people go on holiday, as the scent of a cat will keep the mice away!!

Had the same issue and had hired a company that achieved nothing to start with. Really recommend Inoculand and they have a 1 year guarantee. No activity since June when we engaged them. Hope you figure it out soon as I was super stressed too.

Hi there. I have this problem from time to time as my neighbour is the worse. I heard and tried this hack I found where you cut up an onion and leave it around and apparently they dont like the smell. It seems to work for me that they end up being caught in my traps more easily than before. As soon as I sense there's a mouse I put onions in all the corners of the kitchen and counter. And in 1 or 2 days they are caught.
My mum is living in a maisonette and she was able to stop the mice from coming to her house by literally looking at any holes there is and filling it up with newspaper. The whole flat has them but hers as they cant get in. If its months you have to stay there I would recommend to try it to reduce your anxiety on it as I also hate them. Would also recommend to look for holes everywhere in a flat not just the kitchen. My mum missed one near her wardrobe where the old water tank use to be with pipes and stuff.
Hope it helps. :)
