What does your baby wear to swim?

Hi! We’re taking our little boy on his first holiday in a couple of weeks time and hoping to get him in the pool for the first time (temperature permitting).

He’s only 11 weeks so Wondering what he should be wearing in terms of nappies? Should he wear a disposable under a happy nappy? And does it need to be a swim specific disposable?

Also anyone have any thoughts on whether his costume should be fleece lined or not? I’ve heard it can help in terms of keeping them warm at this age). Thanks!

Our little girl wears a splash about nappy (neoprene thing) nd then a splash about wetsuit over the top. She has now been swimming 4 times over 3 weeks (13 weeks tomorrow) and usually we gwt her out after 40 minutes (even though she doesn't look cold). We then strip her, dry her off and drive her home in a fleece all in one before giving her a warm bath at home to get the chlorine off her skin

Yes, best to wear a swim nappy under the swim pants. Yes, you get specific swim disposables, or you can use washable nappies.

As for what he should wear, it depends on the temperature of the pool, but I’d say probably yes. Depending on if you also need sun protection, too.

Here is my generic swimming schpeel, with links:

A lot of pools require a ‘double nappy’, so a reusable or disposable swim nappy underneath, in addition to a swim pant like this: https://amzn.eu/d/8i03QhI

I found swim jackets like this easier to get on, over the top of the ‘double nappy’ situation, rather than the ones with full arms/legs: https://amzn.eu/d/3GTZ546

But for sun coverage as well, you might prefer something like this:

I take a mat like this to lay baby on to change/when I’m getting dressed: https://amzn.eu/d/dZjttSa

I have a microfibre towel for baby (it’s smaller/lighter/s ofter/dries quicker): https://amzn.eu/d/czxOVeR

But I have a poncho towel like this for me: https://amzn.eu/d/dxgaEeT

Definitely swim disposable and then happy nappy on top. We had a sun safe wetsuit thing for holiday but at 11 weeks she found the water too cold still as they can’t regulate their temperature very well. Luckily we had bought our fleece lined splash about wetsuit too and she was a million times happier in that. I definitely recommend getting a fleece lined one. You can get them on Vinted for very cheap as they are a bit pricey new if you will only use it for holiday.

We wear a swim nappy (Huggies or something) and a splash about nappy (wetsuit material) if we are going into a super warm baby/hydrotherapy pool..if the pool is under 31 degrees we will put a splash about wetsuit over the top. She is 14 weeks
