Hey mamas,
I had a forceps delivery 2 months ago as baby was distressed and needed to be delivered.
The redness from the forceps disappeared after 3 days, however my baby now has a brown mark on the forehead, eyelid and a little mark just under the eye where he was cut.
I have been reading about what this mark can be and I just can’t work it out. It is on the skin, it’s brown. Looks like a bruise, looks like hyperpigmentation, I’m really not too sure..
Has anyone had this with their little ones? And does it fade over months/some time?
Thanks ladies x

My baby was delivered with forceps and had quite a few marks including a cut on his head making his little hospital hats blood stained and a couple bruises on him, also a popped blood vessel on his eye, everything felt like it lasted a really long time. Everything healed up, and he looks fine now. He's 4 months old, though. It takes a lot of time! If it doesn't go away or fade, maybe your doctor can provide some insight?

Is it brown or red?
They could be stalk marks which go over time. My LO has red in the corner of her eyelids and a little patch on her forehead.
Her forehead mark could be from the forceps, the GP said it was dry skin...pretty sure it's not

If you were anything like me, they made you "read' the silly A4 laminated card of the risks when you were already way past comprehension
I imagine that scaring is right at the top 😞

Even if the mark stays it likely won’t matter to you or LO or anyone else. It may fade later in life too but most likely will be gone before you know it. And if not, people have birth marks, scars, all sorts of things. If baby is distressed there’s a reason they have to act quickly and risk small injuries like that. The main thing is your baby is healthy and a little mark won’t take away from how beautiful he is. Looking back at the photos of my newborn I can see a pretty obvious line on his face but I didn’t even notice it until way after it was gone. I know it’s hard not to worry about everything in the first months but it takes away the precious time

My baby has the same brown mark, 7 weeks now and it is still there, also makes me sad :(

Try not to feel guilty, it wasn’t your choice to have a traumatic birth, so really there’s nothing you could have done differently. Your little boy is lucky to have such a kind and thoughtful mum.
The line was just a red line across his eye and nose, it faded quickly, but my cesarian was planned so there was no rush.
Be kind to yourself x
