who hates their in laws

I wouldn’t say hate but it’s just mostly don’t have a relationship cuz of reasons hard to explain but she also likes drama a lot I feel like so it’s hard to trust her a bit but I do love her she’s sweet and honestly wish we could be close but I’m worried I’ll just get hurt

My mother in law recently watched my kids all day, came home and she left my house a disaster and when I went to give the kids a bath she left literal shit in their butts and gave them a diaper rash so bad that they were bleeding.

Two sets of in-laws, split family. One (mom/stepdad) is alright; mom is a bit anxious and can be a lot in larger amounts but we only see her in short doses, so it's fine. She cares and tries to be genuinely helpful, so that's something.

The other side (dad/stepmom) is the opposite. They don't care. I'm pretty sure the dad is disappointed we had a girl instead of a boy, and the stepmom pretends to care, but she's a textbook narcissist who deliberately stirs up drama. She's also a constant talker and genuinely exhausting. They never make an effort to see us but also complain they don't see us enough. We used to invite them over constantly, they kept refusing so we stopped, and now they complain they never get invites. You can't win with some people. 🤷
