okay so for context, my brother and his fiancé are crazy (not because of this). especially his fiancé. so when they lived with us a few years ago during october his fiancé started saying we needed to keep an extra eye on our black cats because there are people who take black cats and sacrifice them during october because of halloween or something? idk. now like a week ago our black cat ran away. we haven’t put out any like neighborhood notices about her yet because we’re worried about the whole sacrificing black cats thing and we don’t want to draw attention to her being out there, but i don’t know how true my brothers fiancé‘s thing about black cats being sacrificed is, and if it’s not true then we would wanna post something on the neighborhood thing to see if anyone has found a black cat. so has anyone heard of this? does anyone know if it’s true? should we post about her even if it is true? the only time i’ve ever heard about something like this is from my brother‘s fiancé and like i said they are genuinely bat shit crazy so i don’t know if i should believe it or not. we miss our kitty :(

Have never once heard of this. Black cats are heavily respected in the occult communities

Don’t know is if it’s real, but I’ve heard some shelters won’t let you adopt black cats in October because of stuff like this

Unfortunately I have heard of this and it's mostly black pets of any kind really for rituals of any kind

It’s real. In some spiritualities, people perform animal sacrifices including black cats

It's real, and behind all the fun dressing up, candy etc what is actually happening on halloween is witchcraft. I know is hard to believe because not many people talk about, or some people have never heard of it, and others trying to justify it cause it's fun and seems harmless. I know you are worried to draw attention but post it, don't let the fear stop you, you rather know that you have tried. Besides, God forbid if anyone take your cat cause you draw attention, you will never know that that was the case. Also try putting some food on the porch and her crate if she have one, that might help. I'm sorry you are going through this, it's not easy, but there is hope trust this! 🙏🫶

There's some crazy stuff that goes on around Halloween, I know a horse that got stabbed with a pitchfork and had blood drained, it was all on cctv poor thing

I've heard rumors shelters don't adopt out black cats for this reason 🤷♀️ don't know if that's true or not though

My roommate used to have a black cat and people would tell us to be careful around this time with her too. Idk about rituals but I know people be crazy and some people don’t need a good reason or a logical one to kill another living thing.

I would def post about it and hope people would help rather than attract crazies looking for cars to sacrifice. Hope you find your cat, I've never heard of that

Is your cat not microchipped?

I've heard of it but I've also met people whose racism is transferable to cats (not dogs though). I had a whole litter of black kittens and people told me good luck no one wants black cats

I think it just depends on where you live. Truly, but you can never be too careful. I’d post in local cat groups and contact the animals shelters in your area and let them know of your cat. If it’s microchipped they’ll be able to confirm it’s yours.
I personally wouldn’t post flyers round town but definitely walk round wit cat food try cans because that’s more likely to draw cats out. And just walk kissing or whatever noise it comes to and try to find her that way. Try round evening to night time because if it’s not used to being outside it’s more likely to hide during the day till traffic goes down.

When I was in high school I adopted a cat in October. They wouldn't adopt black cats because they said people would kill them around Halloween. But I havent heard about it since and that was like 20 years ago.

What year was she born in? I heard about it in my city as a child because the police and fire department would warn families each year for about three years that if we owned a black cat, we should keep them inside around Halloween time (indoor/outdoor cats were very common back then). They reported finding an increased amount of mutilated cats (particularly black ones) around that time of year and it got to the point where they decided it required a warning. Hopefully it helped reduce the occurrences. They didn't say black cats were sacrificed. Just that they were targeted.
Flash forward and I've always owned a black cat but that was the only time I lived in a neighborhood where a warning was issued. It very well may be because owning an outdoor cat is more frowned upon in the state I reside in now.

It’s real, the humane society I got my cats from a few years ago also told us they don’t adopt out black cats on Halloween lmao the subject only came up because we adopted ours the day earlier and they also questioned us 😂 but I have a particularly witchy looking one eyed black cat (got that one a different day) and I’m extra careful not to let him ourself around Halloween

It's unfortunately true. Black cats are actually adopted less because people think they're unlucky too. I don't think it's a sacrifice but I've definitely heard of people killing random black cats because of superstition.

I don’t think it is like ritual sacrifice it’s more like some fucked up people kill cats on Halloween for fun.

yeah this makes a lot more sense.
