How long are you mamas going on maternity leave for?

I work at a daycare that my sister runs and i’m able to bring my toddler and my newborn there but I don’t wanna go back to work so soon after having him, but I also don’t wanna lose out on money lol. I didn’t really get to enjoy the first few weeks with my first cause the job that my fiancé and I were working at fired both of us the day after my daughter was born. I was planning on returning in a few weeks and he was planning on working to make money while I’m on maternity leave but obviously since he lost his job the whole time I was just stressing about money and didn’t get to enjoy the first few weeks. But this time around, I know I’m not gonna get fired and he also has a stable job so I wanna actually try and enjoy it this time around. I’m able to drop my daughter off at daycare during my maternity leave also which will be amazing so I can actually focus on baby. But I’m not sure how long I should take off.. I want to do six weeks but I’m in between 6 weeks or 4 weeks cause like I said, I get to bring my toddler and my newborn with me so it’s not like I’m gonna be missing out but it would be nice to rest cause we all know how tiring the first few weeks are 😅

I’m leaving at 38 weeks and returning 4 weeks after childbirth

I plan on also taking my maternity leave 4 weeks prior to birth, utilizing the 6-8 weeks depending what type of delivery I have. I also have 100 vacation hours saved up to maximize my time off that I’ve been saving.

yeah that way you can mentally prepare and get ready for that big change plus we never really know when it a happen so you a have to call out of work unexpectedly if you wait till labor. I had these same questions the other day and just figured it out, I wanted to work till labor to keep the money coming in but that a be a headache and to much thinking and having to get with supervisors explaining myself etc when It a just be healthier to be relaxed and mentally prepared not having to answer to anyone or anything

that’s messed up they fired you smh but yeah I would do a week or two in advanced most likely 2 to be extra safe if you don’t mind going back 4 weeks after birth.. I honestly feel like all working pregnant women should get paid leave soon as we hit the 3rd trimester!

Right!!! They even knew that I was gonna have a baby, I told them my due date and everything 🫠and I definitely agree! I feel like people don’t understand how hard it is to work while in your third trimester.
Like we are growing a life inside our bodies that isn’t for the weak at all😅

I'm going to take 12 weeks. My delivery will be a planned C-section, so I get the luxury of scheduling it. My work doesn't offer any pay during my leave, just short term disability and whatever PTO I have stashed away. My husband and I have been saving up our money though, so we'll be able to make it through those missed paychecks and I can recover.

That said, there's real sense in starting before your baby is born, if you're able. With my first pregnancy, I worked up until delivery. I would wake up some mornings and just cry because I was so exhausted and I had to make it through another day of work.

I like in CA so plan to go out at 36 wks and take 18 wks off after. (6wks disability, 8wks paid baby bonding and 4 wks unpaid). I only took off 12wks with my first and personally didn’t feel like it was enough
