We were talking about how most of my nieces and nephews didn't call me aunt because we were close in age. Some of them I went to elementary school with and high school with. Somebody said they thought it was weird. But if you were one year to 5 years apart and grew up together would you call them aunt or just by their first name?

Cousins. Aunt sounds like an authority and comes with expectations.
Some of my cousins are 40yrs older than me, so they get called aunt and uncle. But their kids are my age so my 2nd cousins act as my 1st cousins.
Then because of a late age marriage breakdown I have an aunt who is 2yrs older than myself. Therefore cousins.

My kids have an aunt younger than them and right now she's "baby aunt" but I imagine they'll just call her by her first name

My husbands uncle is only 4 years older than him and I’ve never once (and he said he never has) called him uncle onto by his first name!
His uncle even finds it really weird introducing my husband to anyone as his nephew 😂 they actually call our daughter their niece instead and we do the same with his boys as one of his boys is the same age as our daughter.
Although he doesn’t call any of his aunts and uncle by their title and only by their first name. I call all my uncles and aunts “uncle Jason” or “auntie Trish” etc.
