My baby has CMPA. This was recently confirmed by an allergy test.
I’ve always been told to avoid soy as well and always have.
He’s been on Nutramigen (1 and now 2) since he was 2 months old.
It seemed to ease his stomach problems and eczema but it was never 100% better.
The last few months he’s woken up every night in agony with what seems to be his tummy. His poos have always been not quite right too, pretty much his whole life.
I thought when he started solids they would in turn get more solid but haven’t really.
I am always trying to work out if there’s something else he maybe is allergic to. Just for the first time looked at the ingredient list on Nutramigen 2 and its contains soy?! I am in shock.
I don’t understand why they would add soy to a milk for babies with cmpa😭
I can’t believe I never checked but with every health visitor/gp/even the allergy specialist telling me to avoid soy I just assumed it wouldn’t be in there!
It’s not even in bold!
I feel like the worst mum ever :(
Has anyone else noticed that after coming off this milk their baby finally improved?

That’s interesting! My boy has CMPA and we were never told to avoid soy, but I do know the two allergies are commonly linked! I would definitely speak to your GP and question why he was put on a soy based formula when you were told to avoid it and ask for a different formula

This is really helpful post!
I’ve recently been given CMPA milk, awaiting allergy testing, and my boy is the exact same especially at night.. waking up more frequently just crying. Loose stools etc. my boy has eczema too which has done the same as yours improved but not totally gone, so thank you for sharing and I hope your boy improves!! I’m speaking to doctor Saturday about it🤞🏻x

I was told about 30% of babies with CMPA have a soy allergy by the dietitian and she said not to avoid it (turns out my girl can’t have soy but we found that out when we started weaning)

We were in a similar boat with our baby and even though I was almost exclusively breastfeeding, our doctor gave us samples of nutramigen and alumentin (I can never spell that right lol) after being diagnosed with both cmpa and a soy intolerance. Fast forward to when I was going back to work and wanted to do a trial run with formula just in case I wasn’t able to pump enough, I happened to look at the ingredient list and was in shock to see soy listed in both. We talked to our doctor and they said the soy in these allergen friendly formulas is ultra refined and such a small amount that it’s usually okay for babies with intolerances.
Of course talk to your own pediatrician but I hope this at least gives you some peace of mind!
