Drugs vs Guns

If drugs are considered the problem because they’re deadly in the wrong hands, then why aren’t guns treated the same way? Both kill thousands of Americans every year, but only one is protected as a “right” instead of being treated as a national health crisis.

That’s actually a really good question I’ve never considered. I think drugs are treated as a health crisis because they directly affect your brain and body the moment you use them the substance itself causes addiction, overdose, and impaired judgment, regardless of intention. Guns don’t act on their own; they’re only dangerous based on the person using them. That’s why the government approaches drugs medically and guns as a rights issue we one is inherently harmful by nature, and the other only becomes harmful through misuse.

American attitudes about guns are bizzare to me. The moment you even suggest that maybe, just MAYBE, people should have to pass a test and obtain a license to obtain and use a firearm, the mouthbreathers start frothing.

My husband has his PAL. He owns and uses guns. He's learned in the last couple of years how much goes into owning and maintaining guns - he recently got a new one and his stepdad, a gun enthusiast, explained to him how he needs very specific ammo for it and anything other than the exact specified ammo will cause the gun to explode. Like. Think about that. If I could walk into a store and buy a gun and ammo, I could literally blow myself up just because I bought the wrong ammo. Any idiot should not be allowed to own a gun.

Human error kills people.
Any death that occurs for either is caused by misuse, abuse, or ignorance. All human error.
You shouldn’t have a gun if you don’t plan on learning anything about safety and proper use.
You shouldn’t use drugs without a prescription or the guidance of a medical professional.
If someone doesn’t have common sense to educate themselves about these things not fair to those who do to take away their rights.
Natural selection isn’t what it used to be.
I’ve seen a warning label that says “DO NOT IRON CLOTHES WHILE WEARING THEM.” Or “REMOVE CHILD BEFORE FOLDING STROLLER”.
How dumb does the general population have to be for these to exist.
“Don’t drink and drive”
“Don’t use a firearm while impaired”
“Wear your seat belt”
How many “rules” need to be made so that people don’t suffer their own stupidity?
I understand children not knowing any better. it’s on adults to teach them how to have common sense, critical thinking, and problem-solving. — 1/2

There’s too much faith in the education system. Many Parents don’t teach their children anything because the “school should have taught them” but in reality do we really know what the schools are even teaching? It’s not gun and drug safety.
I have teenage siblings who are being raised by ai and social media because society has changed soo much and they don’t have the same level of parenting that I did when I was their age. And I am just baffled by how much Ive seen the general intelligence has fallen.

I think it’s because Americans are heavily propagandized to “need” guns for safety reasons plus the whole gunz- eagle screech- gun toting freedom culture thing lol. Whereas drugs have never been painted as a necessity or intertwined with national identity in the same way. There’s no ethical and logical reason we don’t have gun control because our politicians don’t actually care about lives lost to gun violence, especially republican ones that are always accepting NRA donations in turn for not creating common sense reform
