America is a scary place because people value guns more than human life. Disgusting!

Disgusted 🤮

It is. People have a weird fetish for firearms here.

I hear the frustration and I agree that what’s happening is unacceptable. I’m genuinely curious what specific actions or changes do you think would actually help prevent this? I support responsible gun ownership, but not because I value guns over people. I value my family’s safety. I’ve been robbed before and couldn’t defend myself, and as a parent, being able to protect my children matters deeply to me. So yes i am glad me and my husband have firearms, I don’t think caring about self defense means dismissing the loss of innocent lives.

I saw a post today about the US criticising the Australians strict gun laws and saying that bondi beach wouldn’t of happened if they had the right to bare arms. I don’t understand this logic unless it’s me but do Americans seriously bring guns to their local beach to defend themselves.

Avatar

you’re one of those people apparently.

Avatar

As an American, I agree. šŸ˜ž

I value guns because I value people. Especially my babies.
Im very okay with people being mad at me for it too.

A lot of countries safer than America, have tighter gun laws.
If you're holding a gun, everyone looks like a target.

Idk how to respond to you directly, Incognito. But its my opinion that America doesnt take great care of its people.. Specifically mental health aid, quality of life, financially, opportunity, and community.... all seriously lacking. I think we have a mental health issue, not a gun issue. I also feel like our political system intentionally breeds division and estrangement to perpetuate a lot of this hate between peers.

Uhm idk cause my sister currently lives in the UK and they have a stabbing problem there. Every other day someone was stabbed to death it seems, so really people are just using what’s available. If someone wants to hurt someone they’re going to, whether it’s by gun, knife, acid, ect. So I feel like this is literally an ignorant comment that’s not thought through enough. We have a lot of guns, even automatics and luckily have never even had to draw one on on anyone. And if someone wants a gun bad enough it wouldn’t be too hard to get one, legal or not.

I live in a state with the fewest gun laws and we have the fewest mass shootings. Guns dont go shootings themselves. Taking guns from people dont stop people from having guns. At all.

Avatar

And your choice selection for this poll is shit.

We’ve had enough mass gun violence, not just at schools, but even places of worship or for god sakes, night clubs and movie theaters. And nowhere near enough legislation to make things safer. That to me tells me that those in power value guns over people, even children. Period. Whenever a school shooting happens and there’s an uptick in lobbying, what’s the outcome? At most they throw a bone in how firearms are purchased. It does nothing in the long run. We’ve lost enough innocent lives to the right to bear arms. Maybe it’s time that those who do use them strictly for hunting and protection have to give up a little too. Sorry. There has to be compromise somewhere and I don’t see where those people are compromising. We compromise with innocent lives.

Again I cant reply to you directly... But thats actually one of the reasons why im home schooling . In a grocery store, I can defend myself because im allowed to have a gun. But, same to you, hun. I pray you never ever ever find yourself wishing you had a gun to protect yourself.

Avatar

Anyone who thinks guns are not to blame is stupid. Like be so for real.

Avatar

I think we can just ban guns from men and it would be better too!

I’ve shared this before but In the mid 20th century, there was an increase in suicides in England (famously, Sylvia Plath). The ovens were using ā€œtown gasā€ and people could easily put their heads in their oven and commit suicide.

There was an argument that changing the type of gas wouldn’t help. If people were determined to commit suicide, they would find a way, right?

They changed the gas and the overall suicide rate fell 30 % because it turns out having easy access dangerous things actually does increase deaths. Notably, there were still suicides in England but many, many less.

Avatar

It’s actually disgusting that people value guns over the lives of children’s

Avatar

it’s pretty sad you take a gun to a grocery store. the only reason you would feel the need to carry a gun to protect yourself is bc you know other people are out there carrying guns.

Avatar

Pic is AI generated. I did chatgpt to make it actually. We can make it the new meme for America and guns 🤪
Can't go anywhere without one. Guns bigger than bikinis!! šŸ‘šŸ‘

Avatar

Ok, look. If you need a license to operate a motor vehicle, which can be a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands, or when operated with ignorance, then you should need a license to operate a gun. Period.

I'm tired of this conversation when the answer is literally right there.

Avatar

Should we legalize all drugs? Sell meth at the gas station? Heroin at Walmart? People still get drugs so let’s just sell it at target!

Avatar

Whats the comparison of gun violence in the US vs ANY OTHER COUNTRY? We are the only country that literally let you have guns with no constitutional restrictions. It is the EASIEST country to get guns.

Getting rid of guns is impossible, same as drugs, but we can do a hell of a lot more to make it harder to have them and restrict the ways in which they are used and carried. Other countries have so I know it’s possible.

The fact that we haven’t goes back to the thought of the OP….we value guns more than human life.
