For example, my daughter’s name is Lily. She will spell it in every single other spelling other than her actual one 🫨 she’s been corrected so many times!

None of my family of family in laws spells my kids names correctly lol they so obviously care about the kids and are always doing what they can - they just can’t spell 🤣
My daughter’s cake had her name spelled incorrectly and we just laughed it off - not because of disrespect or not being caring, they were just trying to be helpful and thoughtful and caring…

I would go to my partner and state I was worried about her cognitive decline. Suggest maybe she’s getting dementia. Tell him it’s his responsibility as her son to go get her checked 😬 because I’d be verrrrrrru worried (eyebrow wiggle)

My mom spells 2 of my kids names wrong. One she does because she thinks it's funny but I don't think my daughter is on accident. I've got a Christopher who goes by Topher and my mom spells it toefur. My daughter is Keira and she spells it Keria. 🥴 Whatever she's old. Lol

Sounds like it's intentional because thats not a difficult name and its the default spelling.

My name is incredibly common but has multiple possible spellings. My dad's mom spelled my name wrong for the entire 19 years I was alive before she died. My grandma definitely loved me, it just didn't seem to click. We just never made a big deal about it. It's so small in the grand scheme of things. That being said, we found out when I was about 10 that she had early onset Alzheimer's so cognitive decline could have played a part.

As someone w that name, that shit is forever lol. I’m surprised when someone gets it right, but that’s regarding ppl outside the family. I’d definitely be a bit annoyed depending on how old my daughter is and how much contact I have w my mil. I’d just keep reiterating “like the flower” so maybe eventually there’ll be that association.

Is your daughter of age where she is learning to spell her own name? Write her name out and have your daughter copy and trace it out have MIL help teach her trace it out seems like she could use the education herself might help her learn a thing or two 😅

I have the same problem with my son, though his name isn’t as common as Lily. (Are there other ways to spell it other than Lily or Lilly? I’ve only ever seen those two). My son’s name is Gio but one of his grandparents constantly spells it Geo. I wasn’t annoyed at first but at this point I’ve corrected her a million times I’ve just given up. My son will definitely correct it because he’s super into spelling things this year. I know she doesn’t do it maliciously. She just doesn’t listen 🤣

it gets annoying really fast, when my in-laws shorten an already short name. our oldest's name is 5 letters. they alwys shorten it to 2. and has corrected them on what the name is. they do not care.

Annoyed but not upset. My in-laws spelled my youngest daughter’s name with 2 “n”s and there’s only one. Of all the things they did/do that annoyed me this was actually low on my list.
I said something to my husband and he said something to them and it’s been fine since.

My grandma has spelled my name wrong in every single card she's written to me. But she is the sweetest little lady and means no harm. She also calls my daughter Tia and her name is Thea. We find it funny.

Ok I post something similar on my FB page not long ago my daughter has a beautiful Muslim name her dad picked before her birth but unfortunately her father spells her name incorrectly.
My Aunt said something beautiful I will never forget “ yes it’s annoying as he is her dad, but if it messes with your sensibilities more, leave it, if you want your child to have a good relationship with her dad leave it, it’s not about taking moral high ground being right it’s about your peace. Fools will be fools you just gotta have the upper hand. Say nothing your peace matters more.

How is she with other names? My mil used to get confused with names and would even called my oh by the cats name until she got to his.

This is my mum and my daughter is also called Lily!

This situation is weird because Lily is common enough and you didn’t use unique spelling. So i'd be annoyed and confused. In other cases (for example my name is spelled weird) I wouldnt care as much.
