so my auntie said I should double barrel our surnames as we're not married, and we're leaning towards Alice as a first name so she would be Alice Kershaw-Parkin. what are people's thoughts on the double barrelling (does it make much difference?) and any ideas for a middle name? my boyfriend suggested Louise since it's my middle name and they go well together but I've never been a big fan of it 😅

Yess!! I double barrelled my sons & ‘y daughter will have the same. Even if I was married I would do the same, I just think it’s nice for the children to hold both names 🤷🏻♀️

We're not married and my son is double barreled but not hyphenated, I get really offended when people drop my name as it comes first....
He is my child I housed him, why shouldn't my name be included!

I personally don’t like double barrelled names
We are getting married in a few months (I’ll be keeping my surname) but we’ve agreed this baby will have my surname, and will have his surname as a middle name

You could do Alice Elouise or Alice Lou to honour your middle name or even Alice Mya

My son has my surname and my partner’s surname is his second middle name.
I think double barrelling is fine. I wouldn’t use Louise as a middle name if you don’t love it though! Because it’s a long surname, a short middle could work, etc
Rose
Grace
Eve
Joy
Hope
Jane
Fern

Yeah they are my kids also. My name MUST be there so yeah we double barrel indeed!

I think it's becoming more common tbh. That said my daughter has 2 middle names so double barrel would have been a lot. 😂 It was more important to me to have my great grandmother's name in there than my surname.

I didnt take my husband's name when we married but agreed for kids to have his surname. Every day I regret not insisting on double barrelling 🙂 my kids not having my name is a super weird reality! I'm hoping when they're older they'll choose to add my name to theirs 'of their own free will'...
My sister's name is Alice Louise and she also hates Louise 😂 if there isn't a sentimental name you have reserved for her middle name, then a one-syllable, 'pretty' name would be a good fit - Eve, Grace, Rose, May etc

I’m Alice Sarah, thought id throw that into the mix 😊
