Any advice on a good way to teach my baby Spanish? I speak English, and I’ve tried Duolingo to learn Spanish but I seem to always fall off my streaks. I really want my son to know both languages and integrate Mexican culture into his life. Single mom and the father has short visitation twice a week.

Only way is to keep speaking Spanish to him. Very minimal English . I teach my kids 3 languages and I say the same sentence or word in all languages, it seems long but it’s paid off and he understands all of them. So for example I’ll say ‘look a dog’ then proceed with exact same sentence in other languages and then just repeat the word dog in English again (so main word that I want him to focus on)

Does his dad speak Spanish? Have him try to speak fluently to him in Spanish and then you speak English. Once he’s old enough for cartoons/ little games/ books put them on in Spanish. My fiancé speaks to our daughter in Portuguese and that’s the method we’re trying but I know it’s hard not being fluent in both languages. I’m on the never ending on and off Duolingo streak as well 🥺

I hear good things about this channel! https://m.youtube.com/@SpanishwithLiz

I am personally a fan of ms aimmee tho!!
(I just like to give options, cause not everybody is everybody’s cup of tea)

Play stuff on YT that’s in Spanish like Spanish kids shows. We speak Viet and he loves watching kids Viet shows, and kid influencers who sing Viet songs etc if you ever turn on the Tv or let him watch YouTube it’s better if it’s language you want them to learn. More exposure and repetition is the way they’ll learn. I am learning Spanish for myself but I speak Vietnamese to the kids that’s our mother tongue. For ME, I listen to Spanish bachata and I like translating the lyrics into English and then looking back at the Spanish lyrics, mainly because I immersed myself into the bachata/salsa dance world but after awhile I had no clue what I was listening TO (besides dancing to the beat) so that’s what started my Spanish journey

You could try Spanish nursery rhymes. Canticos on Youtube is great.
My mom nannies for an almost 2yo and from the songs he understands so much now

Books! And saying things in both languages. Doesn’t have to be sentences, can be words. As you learn, teach.

That’s my bachata playlist.

If dad speaks it then he should only speak to him in Spanish. If you do any screen time I recommend Ms.Vale I honestly like her more than ms.Rachel and my daughter has picked up Spanish words from her. Also get books and try and read and sing songs in Spanish.

My Mexican husband and his family love playing music for our 7-month-old from Biper Y Sus Amigos, especially “El Patito Juan” and “Mami Mami.” I hated the songs at first (very chipmunk-es que) but they’re so catchy 😂🙏 They are easy to sing along to!

I do doulingo with my toddler before bed or nap times most days. We can sit together and get comfortable and I’ll read it to her in both languages and have her repeat it and it’s working pretty well for us. The other day she came to me, gave me a kiss and said “besitos!” And I was so surprised bc I’ve only done that with her a few times and it’s not something we’ve learned in the app lol
Keep up with it and you’ll be surprised how much you actually know (even if you think you don’t, don’t second guess yourself!) and by how much your kid will pick up!

The dad should speak to him only in Spanish and he will learn that way, they can learn 2-3 languages at the same time if they keep hearing it.

Try watching Spanish movies or listen to Spanish music

Play his shows in Spanish istead of English and my son loves watching Aprende Peque on YouTube.

Canticos!🐣 plus reading books to him in Spanish, you both can learn at the same time.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice!!

Have your baby learn new objects in Spanish. For example when I taught my son the sign for water I would say “agua”. He didn’t know water until later. I taught him cobija instead of blanket. It’s a small step but it’ll help you learn and baby learn too

I couldn’t continue watching her 🙈 her voice is too animated for me 😅
