Hi, we've been diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
My nurse suggested we try IUI first, and avoid IVF if possible to prevent stress as I'm mentally struggling with it all.
Is IUI covered under the funding, will this take up a 'go'? Should I ask to just go all in for IVF?
Both of our results are 'beautiful', so its incredibly frustrating that I don't understand why
I should have asked there and then but I was a little overwhelmed.

We went straight to IVF because of our age and because, to be honest, we didn’t want to waste time or money on something that didn’t have high success rates. Yes, IUI was cheaper but at what cost? How many times would we have to do it to have a successful pregnancy? We weighed the pros and cons of both. We also were diagnosed with unexplained fertility.

Hi, the assisted conception journey can be a lot. We were diagnosed with ‘unexplained infertility’ all standard GP tests were normal. We learnt the hard way that there is no such thing as unexplained infertility, it’s just more testing is needed to find the answer. After changing fertility clinics twice, and 4 IVF rounds later we had our rainbow baby in September. Can I ask if your current testing is NHS? x

I would just go ivf, iui success rates aren’t great! Same with everything being perfect, no problem with our first, had ivf 5 transfers (2rounds) to get our second then pregnant again naturally with third! Life is weird and stressful! Had 5 years of trying ivf with our second though and I wish I would have just done ivf straight away (waited typical 1 yr before investigating then another with ivf) x

I did one round of iui it failed then I tried at home insemination multiple times they all failed. So now I’m on my ivf journey. Ivf is expensive but so far my experience hasn’t been too bad and it has given me the most hope of having my baby.

Where I am in the UK (NI) they'll fund 4 rounds of IUI before going to IVF where they'll only fund 1 cycle. I skipped IUI and went straight to IVF because it has better success rates and I am incredibly lucky this worked first transfer. Wishing you all the best, IVF/IUI can be incredibly stressful so if you ever need someone to chat to, feel free to reach out 😊
