My son is about to be 4 months and we are using the Essembly system. I want to love it, but my son has been getting a rash/redness. I've tried adding borax to the wash, changing more frequently... The only thing I know to try at this point is adding the moisture wicking liners.
Could he be having some kind of reaction to the fabric itself? I don't want to give up because I love the idea of cloth diapering. And a lot of money has been spent on this system. But I can't allow my son to just live with this.
Any others experience this as well? Im open to all advice. Thanks!

What are you using to wash?
A lot of trendy Nellie’s soap “crunchier” laundry soaps etc are not actually detergents so they do not wash correctly and cause diaper burn etc
If not that how often are you changing?
I have cloth diapered my first for 2 years and am on a second now
If yours is sensitive to wetness you may get fleece liners to help with this or need to change more frequently unfortunately
Ensembly are made of cotton so I doubt it is fabric related most likely a washing issue if you are changing frequently

I can’t recommend Rockin Green enough - I did a wash with no detergent first to make sure it was not soap buildup then I do one with Rockin Green then another with nothing. And it helped a lot with my son’s ammonia rash.

So I cloth diapered my first from birth until she was toilet learned and am on my second doing the same. We use pockets from a variety of brands but mostly Nora’s nursery. I’m not sure what the recommendation for essembly is but with pockets it’s not really recommended to bleach and especially not often. Also what diaper cream are you using? Many of the more popular brands are not cloth diaper safe and can lead to ammonia build up.

Bordeaux is amazing! It’s also definitely not cloth diaper safe so if I were you I’d continue using the disposables until you feel like babies rash is completely cleared up. 😊 Glad you found something to help.

Not sure if that’s real advice but I can share what we do.
First off, my baby was a preemie and has super sensitive skin and had real bad rashes when he was in the nicu on their 3 hour schedule, disposable diapers and disposable wipes. It was so bad that they had to give him some special ointment….
When we got home and he was big enough for the esembly diapers we switched immediately and it got better after a day.
We use their washing detergent for the diapers, we use their daily balm and their rash cream (though tbh we barely need the rash cream), we use the fleece liners and their overnighters and cloth wipes with waters do clean him. We change every 2-3 hours during the day and up to 6 hours with the overnighters at night.
Before using their diapers I read that regular creams can impact the absorption of the material, I don’t know if the same applies to other detergent but I really like theirs.
