I was told by my ob you have a higher chance as your scar tissue isn’t as strong. I tore second degree in my first and second degree in my second. My ob also put a warm compress on my perineal to help as well. She said my tear wasn’t as bad as my first and this was a much bigger baby.
Good luck you could try perineal massage. I didn’t do that as my scar tissue was so so so sensitive that any touch really hurt and I was literally jolt and move away in pain but I have mostly no pain now after my second tear so im very happy.
Congratulations and good luck with your labour I hope all goes well for you

Was that you’re first vaginal birth? If so then unlikely- I had to have an epsi I tore forceps the lot with my 2nd, (first vaginal delivery first was emergency c section) but my 3rd I didn’t have any issues what so ever- when you think about it everything is already stretched and prepared now 🤣🥴

My 1st baby I tore, and 2nd baby was bigger and I didn’t tear, good luck x

I had a third degree tear with my first (forceps, no episiotomy). My midwife told me the chances of tearing again with the second are much lower.
Also just want to say I did perineal massage every single day with the first and still had a bad tear, so I’m not bothering this time around lol

My first baby I didn’t tear, my second baby I had episiotomy baby had a big head 😄

Second-degree tear both times.
The second time around my baby was smaller, and I massaged the area throughout the pregnancy

Second degree & episiotomy with my first, minor aparently second degree (but only 1 stitch) with my second!

I had a second degree tear with my first baby and a slight tear with my second. The second tear was much smaller but in a more sensitive area. I was worried about long term loss of sensitivity, but it was quick to heal and I haven’t had any issues. My babies were 2 lbs apart in size. So, that probably played a part as well.

I has an episiotomy with first and second degree tear with second. But she came quick and I panicked and pushed too hard. I’d definitely look into modern hypnobirthing techniques if you haven’t. My midwives weren’t great at helping me along but tbf it all happened so quickly. I didn’t actually notice the tear happening though tbh

The same tears from last time tore with my 2nd and I got an added one. Healing wasn’t bad at all though x

I had an episiotomy and second degree tear with my first, second degree tear with my second. However, the second time the tear was high up so recovery was much easier as it didn’t cause as many toilet issues/pain like it did the first time. There’s mixed research on this and different people will tell you different things but I’ve had friends who tore both times, tore with one but not the other or didn’t tear at all but I tore both times despite my second being born in water and I was upright leaning over the bath in a much better birthing position compared to my first baby where I was forced to be on my back.

First baby 7lbs 1oz 2nd degree tear. Second baby 8lbs 1oz no tear.

Third degree tear with my first using forceps
Episiotomy with second and no tear

I tore bad with my first but nothing with my second

i tore with my first baby then my second i didn’t 😊

Second degree with my 1st baby at 6lbs (stitches) & second degree with 2nd at 7lbs & I also tore my labia minora (no stitches, just kept legs closed & it healed but my labia tear is separated which is more cosmestic :/).
First time I was coached to push (hospital) forcefully and second time (home birth) was my fault b/c I did not allow my body to stretch to accommodate baby to come out, I just pushed baby out forcefully so I advise anyone to learn breathing techniques and when you feel baby crowning, to breathe and allow your uterus (which is a muscle) push baby out and give time for the tissues to stretch, just like you would if you had a difficult poop. That can avoid a tear

2 stitches with my first and none need for second (although midwife mentioned a slight tear)

Depends are you using epidural, and are you trying perineum massage? You can also reduce chance by planning ahead with your midwife and asking them how you will both communicate during the crowning phase. They can help you slow down and stretch properly to prevent tearing, especially if you've both planned the communication (a little harder with epidural since you don't feel everything)

I had episiotemy with my 1st and didnt tear at all 19m later with my 2nd, he was over 2lbs heavier too! Also didnt tear with my 3rd x

First baby tore third degree as it was inside the wall and outside to as he lifted his head up, second baby no tear & he was much bigger🤞I listened to my midwife and she guided me so much better than the first tbh xx

Normally your chances of tearing go down but there’s so many different factors and no guarantee either way. Statistically you’re less likely to tear but it’s not a given. If your scar tissue is healed from your last delivery or mostly healed i really wouldn’t stress it too much.

1st baby, 2nd degree tear
2nd baby, 1st degree tear
