Question.

I know how to Sew and im debating on if I should try to make it a business. All I can really do is make blankets, pillows, rice packs, cooking aprons, grocery bag holders, kitchens sets (towels, cooling mats, grocery bag holder, oven "mits"). If I did. I feel like id suck at prices. But idk... ideas?

There is a formula online for pricing for any handmade//homemade items . . . It’s the material and time spent making such item etc !

And the stuff you can make sounds SO dang cool. They didn’t come off as regular items I’ve seen other people sew ! PLUS people love anything customized nowadays for themselves, family or gifts ! I think you’ll do great ! I would definitely join the arts and crafts page on here- the woman are super sweet and could def help guide where to sell etc better than I can ✨ best of luck !!

Take a look at what prices people are charging on Etsy and figure out whether it'd be worth your time and effort to sell them for around that.

If not, just carry on doing it as a hobby if it brings you joy!

I sew as a hobby and will occasionally sell items on Etsy but only as a casual side business. It’s fun but be aware it is a very saturated market and incredibly difficult to support yourself full time doing so.

For pricing a general guide is to charge cost of materials + (time x at least minimum wage). This can get tricky though because most people aren’t willing to pay what items are actually worth. Check out Etsy or local craft fairs, compare pricing on similar items and see if the prices you’re seeing lines up with what you’d want to charge. It can be hard to make a profit vs just breaking even but if you love making things it can’t hurt to try!

Hey yall! After all of your helpful advice, I took all into consideration and decided to bring my business back. BUT add things like candles, and now art - weather my friend paints it (I will give her credit) and I give her the money and she gives me a cut, and other clay arts that I make (I love clay too)

I started this year again (stopped due to life and moving) and was going full force and got extremely discouraged after selling 2 candles and thats it. Idk why. Thinking back. Selling 2 is better than none. But my page is Sew Me Warmth on FB.

This market is saturated with a lot of sewers. I love watching others because everything is sewn & its still different.

Thats one place I havent checked and I cant believe I didnt think of Etsy 🤦🏽‍♀️ thank you all! I appreciate everyone of you!
