Glucose tolerance test

Today, I took the glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks pregnant. They gave me a sugary orange flavored drink to drink on an empty stomach. It had 50g of sugar, high acid content, and preservatives and it gave me so much heartburn. I have never felt so sick in my life. I was nauseated, sweaty and was on all fours waiting for that feeling to pass. :(

I don’t think they should give pregnant women poison to check their glucose. Or at least administer a low acid version of the terrible drink. I really should’ve declined the test as I felt that was so unnecessary.

Did anyone else take the test and what were your thoughts?

that stinks :( i opted for the fresh test, so i got to take a little packet home and make the drink myself before the appointment. it wasn't the tastiest but it definitely didn't leave me the way it left you. they should def be telling people that there's different options

I haven’t taken it yet I’m only 19 weeks atm but it does sound like poison.
Is it something you can decline?

I got the fruit punch flavor and it has red 40 in it... lol like why are we expected to drink that I rather make my own sugar water

I had no issue with it. Blood glucose was 92 for me after 1h. And I don’t drink any soda ever. And it tasted like one to me. I also have GERD but had no issue after this. I heard from many people who didn’t end up passing the test that it was worse for them. Did you get the results yet?

They drew my blood but it may take some time to get the results.

Half an hour before taking the test, I had taken my prenatals with some water. Perhaps that added to the heartburn, hmm

With my first pregnancy I had the orange drink for both the 1hr and 3hr tests and I agree it left me with heartburn and nausea both times.
I'm thankful with this pregnancy I got the lemon-lime way better in my opinion and I passed the 1hr. I also was not required to fast for either 1hr tests, this time I ate cheesy scrambled eggs with a hint of onion powder.

Definitely ask your provider about doing the fresh test instead next time! Only a few clean ingredients and way easier on your system

If you were to check a lot of your snacks and drinks that are " healthy" , some of them have well over 50 mg or close to 50 mg of sugar. This is just to test if you are able to handle the sugar and not go into a state of hypo or hyperglycemia. You probably would normally ingest more than 50 mg of sugar on the daily, even if you're eating stuff like fruits and vegetables.

I drank the orange one too honestly it’s healthier than more sodas and other drinks, people can react differently to it

Why would you think it's poison? It's just sugar water? Seems a little dramatic.

I'm sorry you had a terrible experience. Did your test come back positive? Often the two are correlated

I just had mine today and the drink wasn’t even bad in my opinion. I felt fine after and had no adverse reactions..

I had mine yesterday and I didn't have to fast! I ate yogurt before. I drank the orange drink and felt sick for about 20 minutes after. then got my blood drawn and was starting to feel better. I had a sugar crash hard in the waiting area before the blood draw. sweaty, tired and nauseas. I passed!!

Anxiety with the bump.

I’m 36 weeks pregnant and I’ve suddenly developed a massive anxiety around anyone standing behind me. My husband is annoying me so much because even though I’ve told him how it makes me feel, he’s continued doing stuff in our kitchen (that is tiny anyway) and sliding past me to grab things. I know the baby is safe even if I were to bump the bump a little but even the thought of it is still making extremely anxious. How do I cope with this feeling and is anyone else going through the same sort of thing?

Breathless and feeling like I need to be sitting constantly!

Has anyone else been feeling this way as they're getting closer to their due date?

I attempted to change our bedding this evening and had to call my husband for back up as I literally felt like my lungs were going to explode just trying to reach over to put the sheet on.

I'm huffing and puffing just getting my toddler into his pjs, and I was sat down! Like what is going on 😮‍💨🥲

Everything has been check ie bloods etc so I think it's just general pregnancy as I'm now 38 weeks. My bump feels like it weighs about 100lbs 😭

Friends wedding abroad

Hi all. I know this is FTM... But really need advice. I am currently pregnant with baby #2. Only 8 weeks. I didn't want to tell anyone yet, my partner and boss knows (needed for risk assessment reasons annoyingly). My friend is getting married in a remote part of Spain in ~3 months. I've already had a few minor complications, pain, bleeding, vanishing twin... I got preeclampsia last pregnancy and a terrible birth.
I am pretty sure I don't feel comfortable flying and then travelling out to a remote part of Spain during pregnancy. It will just be me and my toddler. I know it's overcautious but I just don't feel comfortable. I'm not even sure if I am going to be classified as high risk pregnancy or not.
How do I handle this? I need to tell her ASAP, but I didn't really want to tell anyone yet as doc told me miscarriage risk is a bit increased with vanishing twin. Any ideas?
