Must haves!

First time mum here! Baby is due in June and I feel overwhelmed at what things to buy. For those who have had kids before what are your absolute must haves for the early months? Bub is born in winter-but we are in Brisbane so unsure what TOG sleep suits to get (we live in a modern house but no heating). Thanks :)

Please try not to feel overwhelmed, remember you can get most things by popping to the shop or ordering delivery so most things are in arms reach now days. It’s easy to buy so much you never use. I’d say start with car seat, stroller, bassinet, thermometer, changing items, some swaddles and blankets. Newborns don’t need much ❤️ I had so many tot swaddles and spent a fortune. If you can get some on Facebook marketplace I recommend, and they grow out do them so quickly.

Digital Thermometer (the in ear ones work very well), White noise machine, a wrap carrier (newborns don't always fit in the other carriers), nappy bin, puppy training pads (we still use them when changing our toddler, it catches accidents and makes cleaning up easier), a baby monitor. A bassinet on wheels is a game changer. If you are planning to breastfeed, a nursing pillow.

Don't buy too many toiletries, test a few to see what works best for your babies skin. Same with bottles, you might need to try a few different ones.

There are lots of nice lists on google and Pinterest for more ideas.

Hi Nikki! The exact same thing happened to me and I made a list with the things I considered essentials that I can share if you would like… I’ll have a look at it now that my baby is 3 months to adjust :)

By the way, I didn’t buy a lot of these things until after he was born as nowadays where I live I can get things fairly quick through Amazon (with next day delivery) or shops that are open 7 days a week

So I wouldn’t stress about having everything well in advance!

Find a support system of professionals who you will call if need.
Lactation consultant - make sure they are an IBCLC and be clear that you won’t do triple feeding (trust me, it’s not worth it)
Pelvic health physiotherapist - honestly you should see one whole pregnant anyway, but definitely get a 6 week postnatal check for your pelvic floor
GP - you should already have your own, but choose one for your child - even just which clinic.
Sign up for a mother’s group! Keeping mums and Maia are the ones I have done, which are really worth it

A decent swing! My old cheap fisher price one died a few days ago and I replaced it with a joie sansa 2 in 1 for 200 bucks off marketplace and it's a game changer! Wish I had it from birth!

Love to dream sleep sacks in newborn (xs) and 000 (small)

If you plan to formula feed at all get yourself a baby brezza instant water warmer.. once again, game changer!
