I want to take my girl swimming as we have never been, is it best to start swimming lessons or could I just go to a leisure centre pool

We’ve done swimming lessons since 4 months old and I’d highly recommend them for water safety/ confidence if you can x

As a swimming teacher myself, my little boy is in lessons. It’s good for him to get used to listening to someone other than me in the water, he watches and learns from the other children, and it separates the play time with the concentration time (although at this age most of it is fun) but he knows that he needs to listen in his lessons and follow the activities rather than just do what he wants to do. So I’d do both, have the fun time in the pool on your own as it will build a good relationship with the water but also lessons for learning important safety bits and getting ready for lessons when they are older xx

We go swim 2-3* a week in summer either beach or pools or splash park since he was 4m old, I love the water myself sometimes I go swimming w friends without him. If you want your baby used to and confident around water take them casually swimming at least once a week. Now that the weather is warming up for y’all invest in some nice bathers, nice towels and a nice picnic rug you can lay on the beach or outdoor pools or splash park etc. beach shoes also great. And a nice beach tent if you go beach. I always invite a mum friend so he has buddies to swim and play with

We did lessons but more recently stopped and just go by ourselves. Will probably restart lessons when closer to school age. If your confident maybe try by yourself to start with at a toddler session if you can find one locally?
