In laws?

Can I please have some advice on if I’m overreacting. My FIL now hasn’t spoken to us for about 3 weeks because the day they usually come over he had to rearrange to another day then we wasn’t able to accommodate because we had plans and now he’s just decided to not speak to his son?
He has now decided to come out with how he hates how they never get to babysit their granddaughter and have them alone, but I don’t need them to look after her. Also don’t trust MIL as she smacked my daughter’s hand at 15 months which I don’t allow. So I’m not comfortable for her to be left alone. I also don’t go out often and always love being with my daughter, I don’t want someone else to watch her when I don’t need to.
I feel like they feel very entitled and overbearing.
I wish I could see them in a different light but I just can’t. But I also don’t want my partner to not have a relationship with his Dad.
Have I caused a problem but not allowing them to watch my daughter, or am I well within my rights to be sceptical given the history? I feel bad but friends keep telling me I have no reason to feel bad and have done nothing wrong.

You’re definitely not over reacting, it’s your baby so you get the final say. If your parents in law have a problem with that then just leave them to it. You have no need for them to baby sit so they shouldn’t pressure you.

I would also feel very uncomfortable if a trusted family member placed hands on my daughter and I would make a big deal out of it. They’re just a baby, there’s no need to cause harm.

You do what feels best for your family, I’ve been in a similar situation with my parents, but they have to understand that they can’t control you or your baby.

As someone with similar inlaws, it's not thier baby. They need to realize that as the mother you get to make those choices and you don't have to let them do anything you're not comfortable with. If they want to see their grandchild then they need to grow up and talk things out like adults instead of cutting contact or try to manipulate

Agree with all above. You are not wrong. If you are not comfortable with them having your daughter then the answer is no. In laws seem to thing they have some sort of entitlement to our children and can have whatever they want whenever they want it.
