38 and 5days

First time mom, second pregnancy (first one ended in a miscarriage at 8weeks). Had my 38wk visit today and I’m 0.5cm dilated. OBGYN wants to do a membrane sweep at 39wks. Has anyone had one? Painful? Did it work? Thoughts?

I had two but sadly they didn’t really work for me. Since it wasn’t painful at all I would definitely try it again in future pregnancies.

You don’t need to have that done if you don’t want to. It’s an induction method with a 50-60% success rate. It also has risks. It can take 2days for labor to start. It can be painful depending on the person. There will be some spotting and cramping.
Not sure why a sweep is being recommended so early.

I'm not sure why it's normal practice before your due date. Fair enough if you're higher risk or overdue. Baby will come when they're ready

do you want them to do that ? if it was me since your already dilated I’ll wait to see if your body does what it’s supposed to do. Your body your choice . Wish you and the baby the best !
