So my baby is 2 weeks old and her doctor gave us the okay to give her a bath (her stump fell off at day 5, I just wasn’t sure if it was healed enough). We tried a bath tonight and all she did was scream. I couldn’t even wash her, once she touched the water it was over. I took her out almost immediately, I can’t stand to hear her cry that hard. The water wasn’t too hot or cold, I tried giving her her binky but she did not care. Now granted she seemed like she wanted to fall asleep before the bath so maybe she was just tired and the water was too much of a shock? Idk, we’re gonna try again when she seems more awake, but idk what to do if she screams like that again… how do I get her to like the bath and if I can’t how do I wash her?

I'm still pregnant with my April baby, but with my first 2 when they were babies they just hated baths for awhile.
I honestly just tried to get them washed up as quickly as possible. I found out after a few tries that they tolerated baths better if I got in with them and just held them in my lap while I washed them up, even better when I breastfed them while I was doing it.
Hoping it gets easier for you and your little one soon!!

Luckily they don’t need to be bathed every day as an infant . But things take time to transition for babies. At 8 months my baby gets mad when I take her out, 😂
Everything is just new to her, be patient. Try putting a towel in the tub then putting her in. It’s supposed to make it less colder for them.

Try putting something in her little tub or seat so she isnt sitting on hard plastic (or just get one made with netting), and get a thin rag or burp cloth to put over her in the bath. It acts like a swaddle and helps them feel more secure instead of this new, scary sensation of being in water. Lots of babies dont like it at first. Just watch your own expressions and reactions because you are what teaches her things are safe. Even when she cries, just go slow, clean everything yoh need to clean, and keep a big smile of your face while you talk to her calmly. You could sing, too, if thats easier. But it will get better 🩵 its just so new.
