Sweep
Hi
Just looking for advice I’m 38 weeks plus 2 this time next Thursday so I’ve been offered a sweep by midwife, does anyone have any experiences of this like how it’s done? If it worked? If it’s worth it or I should just wait?

For your first baby that's quite early to have sweep unless your pregnancy is considered high risk and depending on how your cervix is may not do anything. I had 3 sweeps with my first and all did nothing as I just wasnt ready. Sweeps vary for each person and are uncomfortable.
I have a sweep next Thursday too, I'll be 38+5. Been offered one early because he's measuring big. I'm doing it but not expecting anything from it. Got another one booked a week after too at 39+5
Same due date 😍 and I also will have a sweep next week, but on Friday.
Someone described the feeling as a band fingering. And it kinda feels like that. Its a very quick process, less than a minute. Midwife will locate your cervix and literally try and put her fingers in your cervix and do the circular move around it to hopefully detach it from baby's membrane. You can have up to 3 sweeps. Each after at least 72h after the first one. Recommendations are to stay as mobile as possible after having it and if you can - have sex (prostaglanins and oxytocin). You can also refuse it or ask to delay it.
Its all ur call, baby can either come when they are ready or if u r comfortable hurrying it along, can be risk of infection, its a personal choice and ur circumstances x
I've got a sweep booked for next Saturday when I'll be 38+2 and then a second sweep booked for the following Tuesday where I'll be 38+5 due to having Polyhydramnios and GD so they don't want me to get to 40 weeks. X
