It’s called a Foley balloon. They insert a small tube with a balloon through your cervix and fill it with fluid so it puts pressure on your cervix and helps you dilate. It’s a mechanical way to start labor. They do it if you’re under 4cm

They tried it during my induction (I had preeclampsia so it was a surprise induction) but it kept failing and trying to fall out before getting to the inflation part 🫤 overall I think it’s pretty safe but in my case it hurt

I had a balloon catheter with two balloons. One either side of the cervix. Had for a full 24hrs, got to 4.5cm and then had my waters broken to go on the drip <3 My hospital offered gas & air for having it put in but I didn’t find it necessary

I might not be 100% correct but from what I researched it’s a mechanical induction and it’s used if your cervix is hard and closed and not dilated. If your cervix is soft and thin you could do a different type of induction. I’ve heard it can be painful for some people, but others don’t have much of a problem. It is considered safe tho. If it was me, I would talk to my doctor about why they are wanting to go with that type of induction and also look into trying some exercises and other things to help soften the cervix naturally. Walking is one of the best things, plus it helps get baby settled into a good position. Eating dates and pineapple can supposedly help too. Whatever happens just remember your body is designed to do this and you are so strong!

I had mine about 11 weeks ago. It can be really uncomfortable but completely safe. Unfortunately mine didnt work as well as planned and I didnt dilate enough and ended up having a Csection.

Hey there! Usually the due date should be called the improbable date of delivery... our bodies all work differently.
One woman can have a 28-day menstrual cycle and another a 31 or even 35, 36-day cycle...
All this is to say that the due date is usually standardized for all of us, knowing that all our bodies are completely different and our ovulation day might not be on the 14th day for some of us...

You have all the right to request a different type of induction or even decide not to get one if that makes you feel better or more comfortable.

If you know you feel your baby like you used to, if they check your baby's signals and he or she is doing okay, if you yourself feel well over all... If your baby is growing well (side note: a baby that is weighing around 7,700 or close to 8000 pounds is not a big baby and our bodies are designed to receive them) Babies usually don't grow bigger that our bodies can push unless there is a specific medical condition like gestational diabetes, etc..
