Rant - Labour

Started having contractions at around 3am to 5am - 6 minutes apart and lasting about 45 seconds.

We live quite far from the hospital and my first had shoulder dystocia so I was advised to go to the maternity unit earlier than needed (when contractions got to 5 mins apart) as labour can progress quicker with second babies and they didn’t want to risk me not making it to hospital.

Woke my husband up and his initial reaction was to moan at me about how he’s tired and has work in the morning - he then went back to sleep.

This caused a huge row and the stress of it all stopped my contractions. Still feeling quite crampy and have lower back ache but unsure if things will pick back up. Fed up and just want baby out now!

I’m only 38+4 and my first was 6 days late so I’m partially in denial that she will come anytime soon.

This was my life. I totally understand and it’s really really difficult when you have to make the call and it’s all on your shoulders. I was in slow labour for a week and it was back and forth so many times. And arguments - but hey - it’s the lives of you and your baby - let em moan. The only thing I would say now with hindsight it’s a wonderful thing - the difference between my first contractions and actual labour contractions were like oh yeah that’s the ones - BUT you can’t predict whether it’s going to stop or ramp up, you just can’t - so you always have to be safe. Im an hour and a half away from the hospital and the whole thing was so stressful I started to swear they stopped as soon as I set foot in there. She wasn’t engaging properly though but who knows - you’ve got to be relaxed to let it flow and this situation is anything but relaxing. Solidarity anyway. Choose yourself and baby first xx

Hopefully things will start back up and he'll be more thoughtful in what he says to you.
