I got Venofer infusions, make sure you eat before so you don't feel sick. Sometimes I felt like throwing up if I wasn't well fed prior.
They get an IV line in and run it until your iron gets in. 30-60min infusions followed by a 30 min saline flush/observation the first time. It smells like maple syrup 😂
At first I got the 'iron flu' after. I always needed a day or so to recover at the start because the iron overload can be a lot for some people. Feels like a flu with slight fever and passes quickly.
I'm on year three of them due to a disorder and tablets/diet not being sufficient and I feel like it doesn't impact me anymore. Currently pregnant and getting them as well.
Just take it easy, eat, have water or bring snacks, a book, a blanket whatever to rest for that time as you finish up 🙏🏼 hope you get relief!

I had to get 5 infusions all in the span on 2 weeks because of my iron. I kept passing out at work so they figured it was my anemia. Which they were correct. Anyway! Im also allergic to it so I had to take drugs before and after getting it. Imits going to taste like maple syrup in your mouth when they push it through your iv. See if they can do it slowly over a 15 min time period for the first one just to make sure your body doesn't hate it. Also keep Tylenol on hand for after just incase you spike a fever.
