Should I find out my baby's gender before birth?

I'm torn about whether to find out my baby's gender now or wait for a surprise at birth. For those who have made either choice, what helped you decide? Did you have any regrets either way?

My first pregnancy I had twins. We chose to know the genders so we could more easily choose names. If you are only having one that isn't necessarily as big of a concern. I will be choosing to learn gender this time as well even if I'm only having one, because my husband and I don't like the same names for boys so I want to know if we need to deal with that struggle or not.

I don’t want to know at the anatomy scan but I do want to be surprised at my gender reveal. (That same weekend) We knew at 12 weeks with our son. I want to actually be surprised this time around. We want to know before birth so that we and family can purchase the correct clothes vs gender neutral clothing.

We found out gender at birth. A wise old couple told us. “There are very far and few between genuine surprises in life” and the gender of your baby is literally one of the biggest natural surprises life will give you. ❤️

First congratulations 👏
My husband and I decided that we want to know. What drove us to that decision was we really just wanted to be prepared. We both wanted to to have everything tailored towards boy or girl. (Obviously some things such as crib and changing table, etc not so much). Another thing that helped us come to this decision was knowing what some of our family went through when they chose to be surprised. For instance a family member had a boy however the hospital she chose to deliver at wasn’t well equipped to do a circumcision. That being said, the choice is totally up to you. 🩷🩵 hope this helps!!

I’d like to know. I like to narrow down list of names and be mentally prepared

I fought with myself over this about my first baby. Long story short, I'd spent almost my entire pregnancy trying to get the gender from my doctor. I found out three weeks before she was born (after traveling 2hrs away to a different doctor)
So of course by the time I actually got the paper, I was doubting whether or not to look!
I may as well, to be best prepared for my little noodle! We only had girls names picked out, a ton of hand-me-down girl stuff.. we knew in our hearts it was a girl.. BUT I wanted to be sure, so if she was a boy, I could properly be ready and wasn't scrambling for names/clothes.
Now I'm pregnant again, I absolutely will be looking at the gender again. The pressure of having to decide things on the spot after birth, personally just isn't appealing to me. The doctor/nurses stress me out enough. I want to know what I want for my baby, for SURE. So there is no room for persuasion while vulnerable.

I'm so sorry that was so long 😭

I slightly regretted finding the gender out with my first because I think it would have helped me massively in the labour still having an element of surprise (that being said it’s still so much excitement waiting to see what they look like and everything 🥺😍) I only found out as I’m a bit of a control freak and wanted to have everything ready for him. Next time round I’ll be keeping it a surprise!

There’s enough surprises in the delivery room

We kept the gender a surprise until I gave birth with my 2nd (his first) and honestly it was the best thing we ever did! I don’t think we would keep it a surprise again if we had any more as we would want to know if we need to keep the clothes we have or buy new ones. But I’m so glad one of my pregnancies was a surprise!

I wanted to know beforehand to be more prepared in the things I was buying and also to know a name

We waited till birth both times and it was the best feeling all at once! You get to announce a baby, announce a boy or girl and announce a name. 3 surprises all in one. It gave me courage both times to go through birth, I knew I got a surprise at the end.

Baby 3 will be a surprise too. We only get a few true surprises in life nowadays and we loved these.

We found out with our first because we were struggling with the names and knowing the gender helped. I would probably choose to find out again in the future (even though I like the idea of a surprise) because I feel like it helped me connect with the baby in a different way by calling him by his name while still pregnant.

We opted to not find out. We’ve prepared names for both gender so feel ready in that aspect. I do feel slightly underprepared in terms of nursery / clothing as we’ve opted for everything neutral and will add colours when we know. But no regrets! It’s taught me how to be patient, there are little surprises we get in life - I can’t wait to find out in the delivery room!

I wish I’d waited!
