Teen dating adult

I think that’s the upper limit of what is an acceptable gap between an 18 year old and their partner. 22 seems pushing it, higher than that is definitely not appropriate imo because an 18 year old is still a teenager.

I know people who dated at that age, so I wouldn't say it can't work out. I think it depends on the individuals and levels of maturity. Typically a 21 year old has other shit going on. They also presumably don't go to school together, so they don't have that social time and connection that high schoolers have.

Here kids are considered adults at 18 and can drink and vote, etc, so that makes a difference. With my old friend group, they had a "party house" and wouldn't allow anyone who was underage to be there, so 18 was the youngest acceptable age. If the drinking age were 21 then that would have been the cutoff.

For the folks that view it as appropriate - then you would be okay with your child at 18 y.o dating someone that’s 21, right?

I think it depends on the 18 year old and the 21 year old to an extent but also I'm from the UK where 18 year olds are considered adults so that maybe skews my view a little compared to other places where 21 years is an adult but yes I would be ok with that

in my opinion it’s acceptable if for example one’s a freshman and one’s a senior in college and they meet on equal footing, both out of the house and no financial power imbalance. Now say a 21 year old man is dating an 18 year old high school student and meets while she’s still living at home then yeah I find that inappropriate. And I use that M-F example because honestly you don’t really find it the other way around as often, you don’t find 21 year old women picking up their high school boyfriends from school for a date😂 and I think that’s very telling of the weirdness factor

I think it’s weird but I don’t really think there would be a lot I could do to stop it. 18 is legally an adult in the US. It might have to be one of those learning experiences. When I was a teen I dated a lot of people older than me. I thought nothing of it until I got to be older and looked back.

I believe so I’m 18 almost 19 and my partner is 21 almost 22 we have a 3 month old together now but I don’t see why it’s inappropriate

I was in a 4-year relationship, with a guy who was 5 years older, that started when I was 16. In hindsight it was not ok.

18/21 is in that weird grey zone where 20 and 23 would be ok, but 14 and 17 would not.
