Property worries

So I’m currently renting in a studio flat. I moved out just after I turned 23. I’ll be 24 in December. Baby is going to be here in Feb 2027. Obviously, we need more space, but renting in my area to be near work is expensive, council tax also expensive. Contract for this place ends in January. I really don’t want to be moving when I’m 9m pregnant 😀. We’re trying to consider our options but moving and preparing for a baby and buying everything we need is actually looking like it’s going to cost every organ and limb that I have. I’m young but in full time work as a qualified teacher. My husband also works full time and is on more money than me. It feels like even when you get the qualifications and the job and work full time, it’s still impossible to afford a decent life in this country. Does anyone have any tips that helped them? Or have any ideas that could work for us? We can’t move too far out the area due to work and having a family network close by… help!😖

You could stay where you are for a considerable amount more time than you think if you’re smart with it! We’re in a 1 bedroom flat with 2 babies under 2.5 as we’re waiting for the housing market to pick up. It’s absolutely doable in smaller spaces x

As someone who moved at 28 AND 37 weeks pregnant and suddenly had to pay double my rent, I can vouch that it’s really not ideal.
Now that the new renters rights are in place, you’re no longer on a fixed term contract. Every renter is now on a rolling monthly contract (your letting agent or landlord should have contacted you about this in May). So if you were to move, you have the option to move before Jan.
I’m not sure how big your studio is, but realistically baby is going to be in a crib next to your bed for the first 6 months, so if you have enough space, you could get by for a little bit!
As for baby stuff, Vinted and FB marketplace will be your best friend. You can get so much stuff on there for cheap or free.
