I’m wondering if I should get one or I’m going to get obsessed with my weight. I do have to lose abt 30 pounds

I hate scales. If I’m trying to lose fat I like to pay attention to how clothing is fitting and how i feel in my own body. Tbh i feel happiest when I have a moderate amount of fat and muscle on my body. Seeing myself super thin reminds me of when I was super ill or when I was deployed and depressed…
My issue with scales is that someone can be losing fat and gaining muscle and feel frustrated when the scale shows they lost only 1lb or even gained weight after working so hard.
But a scale is a personal choice. I know seeing a scale is very motivating to my husband but he does have moments when he sees it goes up and gets a bit depressed rather than motivated.
Other ideas instead of a scale is doing a streak or bullet journal trying to be consistent with whatever goal you have in mind(:

So we have one and I don't go on it because I can spiral and make poor choices, however it's really been great for my husband's health goals... so I'd say it really depends on you?

It’s not good, it can become a competition with yourself to see how low you can get the number, it can lead to obsessively checking in the morning, after every meal, and at night, and gaining muscle also makes you gain weight so there are better indicators of where your health and body goals are then a number

Women’s weight fluctuates weekly so for losing weight it’s best to weigh monthly about 2w after your period on ovulation week. We might gain some lbs on period week through bloat and water weight so I’d suggest avoiding weighing on period week and just before/after. I don’t have scales my sister does so I weigh when I go there when I remember usually it’s coz someone else decided to weigh themselves and I’m like hey why not and I check too. I can feel it in my clothes when I lose weight and though other peoples comments that bump into me every couple months. It’s usually what they say “wow Kel you’ve lost weight!” So I know what I’m doing is working.

Then I wouldn’t if you think you’ll be obsessed. I like it forms to just know at points but we aren’t getting on it everyday. It’s like once a month at this point.

It doesn’t matter if you have scales or not. They’re a tool. It’s upto you whether you use the tool appropriately or not.
If you’re going to weigh often, do it once a month, or once a fortnight, at the same time (for example, early in the morning each time you weigh).
Using a mirror is better because you can have body fat move to other parts of your body, look thinner, and still weigh the same. Also, muscle weighs too. So you could lose weight, gain muscle and potentially weigh more on the scale but you’ve still had weightloss.
Like I said, scales are a tool for monitoring. They shouldn’t be relied on 🤍

I stopped having one when I was 19 years old after realizing I had some food relation issues. It helped me take the obsession away and it was a huge start in my healing journey. I'm 38 and I still refuse to have one at home

For me it’s good. I’ve gained 10lbs without realizing it because I didn’t weigh myself for a while.
Now that weigh myself once a week I’m aware of if I’m eating too much or too little.
