INDUCTION

My baby is due in 5 weeks but my doctor wants to do an induction in 3 weeks because i have gestational diabetes 😫 Is anybody else going through this or has gone through this? What was your experience like?

I also have GD this time around and my doctor hasn’t said anything like this. Is it because baby is bigger and they’re worried? Or in general what reasons did they give?

I have been induced though (last pregnancy) and on one hand it gave me relief to know like, “I’m having my baby today” on the other hand this was the 2nd worst pain I’ve had in my life (can’t compare it to natural contractions 🤷🏻‍♀️), but once I got the epidural it was smooth sailing.

I've been induced with 2 of 3. Contractions are generally stronger and more painful, but with gestational diabetes they recommend delivering early due to larger baby size

I was induced with my first at 37 weeks because I had gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia.
Will likely be induced at 38-39 this time for GD unless I develop pre-eclampsia again and we go at 37.

They generally recommend induction in the 39th week for GD because the insulin your placenta is absorbing causees it degrade faster, but sometimes they move it up if its not well controlled (or your medication doses get too high) or you have symptoms of other concerns.

Mine was fine. It was 28 hrs from first meds to holding my baby. I do recommend the epidural, as it can be hard to allow your body the rest it needs with induced contractions.

I hope my baby comes before the induction date because I don’t want more pain, lol I’ll take the natural amount.

I was induced with my 2 year old. It wasn't my favorite thing, but it wasn't that bad. Don't bank on it going fast - we went in on Saturday afternoon and had my son on Tuesday night. It can go fast for some people but not all.

Can you ask your doctor about taking measures to "talk" your body into labor? With my first i wanted to go to 40 weeks but due to age, me not dilating at all by 38 weeks, and my cervix having history of scar tissue she offered a membrane sweep ( heard that hurts), placing a Foley balloon, or doing a cervical ripener outpatient. I opted for the ripener and after 2 doses I went into labor. I was in active labor for 8 hours but had my epidural for 5 of those hours, really only had 1.5 hours of bad contractions and pain. Not sure about GD but I would do my route again.
