Does anyone have a labor experience without the antibiotics? I was planning on home water birth. With a home birth, I wouldn’t have access to the antibiotics used in hospitals. A home water birth is really important to me. I want complete freedom of movement, I don’t want to be told what position to be in, just whatever feels best. I don’t want my water and food intake to be restricted. I don’t want a magnesium iv. I don’t want pitocin, even if labor is progressing slowly. I don’t want the umbilical cord cut until it is white and no longer pulsing. And I want a water delivery, not just a tub for pain management. If we decide to change our minds about a home birth due to gbs results, the hospital we would be going to does not allow water deliveries. My freedom of movement, water intake, and food intake would all be restricted. My midwife would not be able to participate, but we would still be on the hook for her payment. They may not care about what I want, and may cut the umbilical cord before it stops pulsing due to the OB being needed elsewhere. And if labor isn’t progressing fast enough, they may require a c section. This hospital also has it on record that I have used thc (illegal in my state), so they will automatically test baby at birth. I stopped smoking at 30 weeks, but if baby tests positive (still possible even though I quit at 30 weeks) they could take my baby. I really wish someone could just tell me a yes or no if baby is going to get gbs disease if I don’t get the antibiotics. (I know that’s not possible bc no one “knows” for sure)

Hey I completely get it. I’m expecting my second baby and have tested positive for GBS. The first baby I had no idea what it was and I was really devastated I wouldn’t get the water birth I wanted. It took me some time to come to terms with it all. You are allowed to feel disappointed and even grieve the idea of birth you had, so take some time.
The issue is GBS is really serious for babies and the only way they can help baby not contract it, is via the antibiotics. In the end for me it wasn’t a risk worth talking as I wanted to bring my baby home healthy and alive. I’m not sure if they’ve given you any independent information but this website explains a lot of stuff further xx
