First of all the installation was ungodly!!! Hurt more than contractions themselves! I literally cried when they were putting in it! I nearly passed out from the pain I had to go through! I had it in for 2 months and for those 2 months it was unbearable, it hurt sooo bad! It honestly felt like a was having contractions at random times when was standing. It was horrible! I went in to get it out after 2 months and let me tell you!! I instantly felt relieved after it was pulled out.

I loved it. The only side effect I had was heavier periods for the first few months, but they eventually normalized. I had it for 9 years with no issues and got pregnant two cycles after having it removed when we wanted to TTC

That was when I was 20, so 6 years ago. But to this day I remember the pain I felt. Contractions were painful but I am able to move on with those but the IUD pain is still stuck with me

Tried it. Getting it in wasn’t easy for me (turns out I have a tilted uterus) so after a failed insertion, I went back to have it placed with the aid of ultrasound which took 2 mins.
I was already prone to long/heavy periods and this definitely made them worse for me, I just wanted a hormone free option after having a lot of issues on various pills.
Managed for a year and a bit before it got too much, went to the doctors and they suggested I try the implant. I actually ended up with both for 9 years 😂
Getting it out was easy and painless.

I’ve done the arm implant before and a hormonal IUD after (Kyleena) . For me the iud worked a lot better, I had way lighter periods and the installation didn’t hurt at all besides a slight pinch. My arm implant made my period very irregular and I hated it. Overall it’s gonna be what works best for you and I know it sucks to figure out 😅

I loved my copper iud, lasted me a good 2.5-3 years before it sadly shifted out of place causing me to get pregnant with it still inside me though

I’m 27 weeks pregnant as mine got dislodged 😭😭😭 I only had it in for like 6 months.
The installation was pretty painful but bearable I just felt nauseous after and for me it didn’t effect my periods too much

I’ve had one twice. Both times the insertion was horrendous, very very painful. Both times my periods have been 7+ days long, heavy and very crampy and painful. When I had it removed to TTC I suddenly had 4 days periods with no cramps.. after years of the copper IUD I had forgotten what a normal period was like.
My husband has agreed to a vasectomy when we have finished having children.

I’ve had it twice already and I’m about to get it for the third time. Insertion is painful, take 1500mg of Tylenol 1hr before (or honestly just take a gummy lol). The pain is very similar to that of a cervical check, but way quicker. It’s like a piercing.
It lasts 10 years, does not have any hormones, and does not cause any irritation or worsened period symptoms if placed correctly. I just wish they could prescribe pain medication before insertion. 9/10, highly recommend.

Ive not had it done but everyone i know whos had it said that their periods became much heavier and more painful while it was installed.
We just use condoms to be honest. Durex extra thin (covers a 2l coke bottle if you ever wondered about its strenght :'D sex ed was sometimes fun at school is how I know).

I was asleep having it inserted so can’t comment on that part BUT my first few periods was heavier and more painful on days 1-3 then went back to normal. I had it from 17-25, I had it removed when we was actively TTC and I fell pregnant within 2 months of having it removed. Once my girl has hit 3 months ill be having it put back in again x

I was pressured into having the coil put in by my gyno who said it’s the only thing that would stop my endo pain. Installation was fine bc he injected local anaesthetic but immediately after was absolutely horrific and the months to follow I bled daily and the pain was far worse than giving birth, every single day. Finally got the GP to give in and take it out and went back on the depo injection! It’s the only thing that works for me

It was okay. Never had cramps before I got it though and continued to have them afterwards. Worst cramps ever but my period was only like 4 days with light days on the first and last so that was nice. I have the implant now and don’t get periods at all so much better.

I've tried so many types of contraception and personally found the copper iud was the best for me! I initially was going to get hormonal iud but ended up with copper, getting it in was awful, but once it was in I had it the full 5 years, not one period or symptom related to the iud!

Sorry but instillation has me rolling 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I had paragard, the periods were insanely heavy and sex was painful. I kept it in for 9 months but eventually just gave up. Now I’m on Slynd, birth control pill. I still have some pain during sex too as an after effect.
