My 2 year old daughter sucks her thumb and plays with her hair with her other hand. She has been pulling out her hair now while she plays with it and her hair is thinning out so much much. I have tried to get her to hold other toys or try to stop sucking her thumb to stop the hair pulling but nothing is working. Anyone have the same problem?

I didn’t have the hair-pulling issue, but my daughter used to suck her thumb until it would bleed. To help her stop, I got a glove from Amazon that has a mesh/net over the thumb, and it really helped break the habit. For the hair pulling, you could try gently redirecting her hand whenever she starts pulling, or maybe tie her hair up in multiple sections or braids to make it harder for her to grab.

As an adult with trichotillomania... might be worth discussing with your family doctor or pediatrician. Maybe an interim solution could be a doll with hair she can pull out instead?
