I had a pre visit from my health visitor who was male and refused to shake my hand due to being the opposite gender (religious reasons I assume) the closer my due date gets the more uncomfortable I feel that he will be my support network for breastfeeding, mental health etc. Would you ask for a change?

Your comfort should come first. If you don’t feel comfortable around him, I don’t think you can expect to receive the support you need from him. Even though he’s a healthcare professional, I believe you should ask for a different health visitor.

I personally wouldn't be fussed but it's individual preference, if you're going to feel uncomfortable and would prefer a female then 100% request it!
Post partum is such a vulnerable time and you need to make sure you are comfortable and i don't believe it's an unreasonable request 🥰

This is baffling to me,how can you be a productive health visitor and build positive connections and comftorbaility with your patients if you cant even touch them!
