My daughter wants to straighten her hair permanently. She want the Japanese straightener relaxer. I always tell her no because I know how it is being a kid and wanting straight hair then being adult and regretting ever putting chemicals in your hair. She is so upset with me says I won’t let her express herself. I said when she is 18 she can do what she wants. That way she can never blame me if her hair falls out or if she has any regrets. She has 4c hair by the way.

I'm in the camp that hair is decorative anyway. If she can do all the research on the dangers, side effects, social and cultural impact, what she would do in the worst case scenario (patchy bald spots, I'm guessing), where a reputable place to get it done is, and if she can pay for it, and it's maintenance products, and potentially the wig if all her hair falls out and all the care products for that, go for it. The financial burden will probably get her close to 18 anyway and your no becomes a yes, and she learns some money management and prioritization skills
