ECV or CS
Hello everyone, I'm 36 weeks 5 days...went for growth scan. Noticed baby is completely breech, feet down. Had a conversation with the doctor he said I have 3 option, ECV, Planned CS and delivering a breech baby that way. Although he will not suggest delivering the breech baby with his feet down as it it dangerous. I have 2 options left ECV or planned cs. This is my first baby too 😔 Ive made alot of findings and I got to know ECV is mostly unsuccessful, baby might still turn breech even a day after ECV is done, ECV can lead to emergency CS, might put the baby in distress and I just want my baby to be ok. The doctor said for CS, as this is my first baby...forthcoming babies will have to be CS alot and CS will limit the amount of babies I can have and recovery time for CS can be long sometimes. Now m scared😢😢

Its not true that any future babies HAVE to be a CS. You would get a lot of pressure to have more CS but 3 in 4 vbac attempts are successful, especially when you have a good gap between babies. The risk of uterine rupture is like 1% so don't let them scare you (which theyre very good at doing!) I have a friend who had an emergency CS with her 2nd baby as when her waters were popped her baby flipped breach, yet shes just had her 3rd, baby was originally breach but then she had an ECV and everything was fine and she had a successful vbac. There are lots of support groups so do your research and make your own decisions x
A few weeks ago my baby was breech, will find out today if she’s turned. However, the birthing options midwife I spoke to was very clear in saying it is my choice how I give birth.
She also highlighted that the trust recommendation is for a c section because of an absence of skill, not because it’s unheard of. Some women have a vaginal delivery without even knowing their babies are breech, it is not impossible.

Footling breech is different to a frank breech or complete breech, so there are so many more risk factors like your consultant said.
If you really would like a vaginal delivery, ECV is worth a shot! I’ve known some successes. It can be uncomfortable. There’s also exercises on spinning babies that are worth a go at home.
Babies can also turn at the last moment! I know someone who was gowned, ready for their section because of breech. They did an ultrasound to check and baby was head down.
I had a c section with my first because of placenta praevia. I am having a c section from my own choice with this baby, but she’s still transverse at 36+6 so it would have to be a c section anyway. I haven’t been offered ECV because a c section was already my planned route.
