Currently almost 40 weeks and have been told due to GD they would like to induce me if baby doesn’t come by 40+6. My midwife has really not given me any information about inductions but I have an appointment tomorrow where I assume this will (finally) be discussed. I am in two minds about completely refusing an induction and either waiting for baby to come or requesting an elective C Section.
I read that the first type of induction they’ll try is the Propess pessary or the Prostin gel/tablet. Could I please hear about people’s experiences with these? Did they work and would you do them again?

I personally wouldn’t ever recommend an induction from my experience, I had the pessary put in and was 1cm dialated when they put it in within just over 12 hours my body was contracting every 2 minutes very strong (this is my second baby) and this felt like I was about 8-9cm and not far off having my baby. When they checked and took it out I was only 2cm my body didn’t react well with the pessary, after checking and removing they left it a few hours and tried again I’d gone to 3cm and my cervix had changed so I was on the list to have waters broken. This took a 5 day wait!! We were being ignored and pushed around on the list it took for my daughters movements to become slow and weak for them to take me seriously! The whole process is very stressful and takes a big toll on your body. If I didn’t have a hyperactive 4 year old to of come home to I’d of had a C section for how awful it made my body and how it affected my baby 😅

Please bear in mind everyone is different and this is just what happened to me, it may not be the case for you.
I had the propess last Sunday for induction as there were concerns with my baby’s growth. I Was told it could take up to 24 hours and may not even work.
After 4 hours my body had gone into overdrive and I was contracting 6 times in 10 mins and not dilating. Because I wasn’t dilating I could only be given paracetamol and entonox, but this didn’t work.
I had to be continuously monitored as my baby became distressed.
The propess had to be removed to stop my contractions but it didn’t work. I was then given an injection to stop them; which worked for a very short amount of time.
They tried to break my waters but at this point my baby was too low and was still not dilated enough to class it as established labour.

I refused induction and had an elective c section. I did have 4 sweeps beforehand which all failed x elective went really well for me and im fully back to normal after 2 weeks x

I had to get induced at 37 weeks to avoid infection due to my waters leaking. I was booked in for 3pm and had the first round of prostin gel applied at around 5pm. I was told that it usually takes all 3 rounds of gel to work so was expecting to be there for a while as it’s every 6 hours. At 10.30pm that night my waters broke and when I got examined I was already 5cm dilated and had my baby the next morning 🙂x
