SCREEN TIME

My 11-month-old baby boy spends quite a lot of time watching Ms Rachel, and I’m starting to worry that he’s getting too much screen time.

I’m not really sure what else to do. I don’t have friends with children his age for playdates, and I don’t know of any local playgroups or social activities where he can interact with other babies.

I do my best to spend quality time with him, but I’m either at work or, when I’m home, I’m often exhausted because of my pregnancy and the symptoms that come with it. His dad also lives in another city, so I don’t have much support.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for baby groups, activities, or places I could take him? Surrey.

I’d really appreciate any advice. Thank you. ❤️

i’ve been struggling with the same problem but my baby is only 3 months. sometimes i have 0 help and need just 5-10 minutes to get situated so i can pick him up/entertain him again. but my plan for when he starts to get more busy is to ultimately set up his play pen with several toys and activities for him to free play with. i do no more than 20 minutes a day. i think an hour or more of screen time is detrimental to their speech development. and if he is getting screen time it’s either sesame street or sensory videos or nature/animal documentaries. and most of the time i will talk and explain what’s going on in the video in front of him if i am able to. is there a mommy and me group in your area maybe? or maybe you can start one in your neighborhood for other mothers who are probably having the same problem? i would definitely say try the play pen/free play with various sensory activities and moving toys or music makers.

Hi! Try the local library and or local church ( they usually do them during school time but mostly are free or a small free like £1)

Also if you are close to national trusts is worth to get a membership per year is a easy way to get them entertained
Hope this helps ☺️

Is there a local library, they have events on? Or a rhythm time or baby movers group?
If you ask your Health visitor they could probably recommend some places, local Facebook groups or board in library / softplay

My baby uses her tonies instead of watching screens. She loves it and at 13 months knew how to, on her own, turn it on and switching figurines to get different stories and songs. I love to read to my little one too and a lot of just walks outside when the weather is nice. I just let her explore and it doesn’t cost me much energy or money, just slowly walking behind. If your baby’s not walking yet, I brought a blanket and let mine crawl around outside. I’m in United States but maybe GB also has children museums or reading events at the library or if you search a mom walk group?
