I'm looking at names for a sibling who has a brother with a traditonal Scottish name and we keep comimg back to Brodie. The issue is, my brother got a dog and called it Brody 🙈 Is this a no-no? I don't want people thinking he's named after a dog! We also like Riley but it's not Scottish and as we live in England (husband is english) we really want some of my heritage to come through in the names. Help! What do we think about this?

My sister had decided on the name Robin for her little girl and when she was born thought it didn’t fit so went for Piper, my other sister’s dogs name. When anyone said was she named after the dog she said no it was after a vampire in a TV series 😆
If it’s a name you like, just go with it. People will of course have their opinion and if they are stupid enough to share it with you then it shows a lot about them as a person.
Just do you, it’s not as though the dog will be there forever! .x.x.x.

I love the name Brodie. It might be confusing with the dog but I suppose it depends how close you are. I also like Finlay and Cameron. You're in luck that there are a lot of lovely traditional Scottish names that have stood the test of time. I think I've landed on Alexander for my baby - is that Scottish? 🤔
